Some of these perceptions apply to the churches in the community, and their characterization within these perceptions may have an impact upon their ministry. The project involves the drafting of a preliminary mission statement by the parish strategic planning committee, and the opportunity for reaction and input by the parishioners and organizations of parish to the preliminary statement.  A final version of the mission statement will then be developed through a parish leadership retreat weekend and a second drafting by the strategic planning committee.  The Parish Mission Statement will then be presented to the parish, and the adoption of the statement will take place through a signing of a parish covenant at the International Fair Liturgy in October 1983, and through adoption by a consensus of the parish council. It challenges assumptions and establishes a theological and psychological rationale for church loyalty, setting forth a detailed, systematic definition which delineates three degrees of church loyalty, identified as eros (self-gratification), philia (approval of community), and agape (sacrificial) types of loyalty, and sharply distinguishing the absence of loyalty from disloyalty which is viewed as destructive and unresponsive. The methodology elucidated by Amedeo Giorgi, primarily by allowing the students' own experiences to explicate the story, made use of an open-ended questionnaire and interviews with 25 percent of the respondents.
