The basis of this thesis is the writer's concern with the apparent decline of Christianity and the Church in the 21st Century. Using the early evangelical Presbyterian missionaries and clergy of early nineteenth century Texas this paper discusses the ministry of Reverend Summer Bacon, the Texas Presbytery, and the First Presbyterian Church of Gatesville, Texas. The fervor and dedication to faith in God is examined through early evangelical leaders and especially the Reverend Sumner Bacon, an evangelical Presbyterian leader in early eighteenth century Texas and used to discuss ways of countering threats to our church and family culture. Bacon's life and ministry has been described as 'He did all the good he could,' and it is this theme that is I expanded to include the presbytery he formed in Texas ('Doing all the good they could') and to our present efforts prepare themselves for the next God inspired revival 'Doing all the good we can.'"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129741953073152,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:20:32.252Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:55:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:06:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9cd7d32a-e7ee-42a8-8167-bf031a161c52","accessControl_ssim":["763e85a1-a78d-47f1-b36e-55ea3d6c0e08"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Utilizing the prayer revival of 1857-1859 to revitalize prayer in Korean-American churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:55:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:43:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["341138fd-bbc4-4f10-9b8f-6036cba9f758"],"hasLease_ssim":["f2b9bf36-7c9c-4a3a-9301-77d515ab7b50"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["L David Mills"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"location_tesim":["Korea","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Young Hwan Jung"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Korean Americans--Religion","Evangelical Revival","Revivals","Church renewal--Protestant churches","Asian American churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation demonstrates the background, process, and the effects of the Pyongyang revival of 1907-1910 in Korea and the prayer revival of 1857-1859 in New York. Subsequently, it demonstrates that the Pyongyang revival possessed limitations due to its historical context, and that is how the prayer revival of 1857-1859 can be used to revitalize the prayer practices of the Korean-American church. The two revivals shared many things in common: both of them occurred in the midst of crisis and helped people to overcome the difficulties, prayer played a major role, and they were influenced by other global revivals and also influenced them. However, significant differences occurred between them. The prayer revival was solemn, led by lay leadership, and had strong emphasis on the conversion of the lost. The Pyongyang revival was loud, led by pastor missionaries, and confession of sins was the major concern."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132611440017408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:06:08.807Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:25:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"105e02c9-8a72-4de2-ae26-fd5258236695","accessControl_ssim":["df3ebb34-2532-46e6-84d5-904949d806b8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The eccentric vicar of Everton: John Berridge: the Cambridge Revival, and the life of pastoral ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:25:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:35:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["654ace04-0947-4d90-a6ec-09bd2c493fda"],"hasLease_ssim":["8962e84f-af64-4555-8805-b83ca8713ea1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"location_tesim":["Great Britain"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David T Wood"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Justification (Christian theology)--History of doctrines","Berridge, John, 1716-1793","Evangelicalism","Evangelical Revival","Revivals","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation will analyze the life and ministry of the evangelical pastor, John Berridge of Everton (1716-1973) who stood as the central figure in the Cambridgeshire Revival (1759), the Calvinist Controversy (1773), and whose life intersected with most of the key figures in the English Evangelical Revival. The purpose of this study is to reintroduce the figure of John Berridge to a contemporary readership. Second it will argue that it is John Berridge's appropriation of the post-Reformational experiential tradition with its re-discovery of justification by faith that is foundational to his conversion, surrounds his experience in the Cambridgeshire Revival, and sustains his ministry in Everton. Finally using Berridge's life and ministry as an example, this study will reflect on the key issues facing pastors in the current cultural milieu: the need to re-cover the doctrine of justification by faith in pastoral preaching and ministry, understanding the context and natiue of the revival, the challenge of pastoring in and through revival, the prerequisite of a sustained ministry, and finishing well."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129916545171456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:18.756Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:13:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0e1b1fe6-d280-427b-8f5b-2d9cbf45f528","accessControl_ssim":["b1eeb20d-c4ab-4d2e-9b07-1d3ab02f91d3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Time to revive: wake up to the truth that transforms lives"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:13:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:31:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3ac10944-b93f-4419-8748-7014159220e8"],"hasLease_ssim":["d564cf3b-c869-4254-9115-77fc4446625c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy K Beougher"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kyle Lance Martin"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work--Biblical teaching","Evangelical Revival","Evangelistic work--Strategy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Revival has traditionally influences the American church as we know it today; yet over time it have been misconstrued and even more difficult to identify. The time is now to reintroduce the biblical and theological framework needed for revival to sweep across the America once again. But I must ask the question, 'Does the body of Christ desire to be renewed in their relationship with Jesus and share the Truth that transforms lives?' To answer this issue/question, I have developed a thesis-project called Time to revive: wake up tot he truth that transforms lives. This thesis-project contains four essential components - desire, design, disciple and divine - that serve as a model for any city interested in pursuing revival in our nation. With the conditions of revival (humility, prayer and fasting, seeking His face, and repentance) implemented in our lives, God has promised He will faithfully respond (2 Chronicles 7:14). However, God's response will vary in every location. When analyzing the effectiveness of a revival, in a location such as Sedona, Arizona, the most significant outcome is that the kingdom of God will be furthered by believers being revived, the lost are hearing the Good News of Jesus (evangelism) and being saved, and disciples are making disciples. These results occur not because of man's effort. No, as long as the Word of God is communicated, it won't return to Him empty, and God can bring forth the fruit."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129886340939776,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:49.951Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:02:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1bb20955-cda4-472b-8a67-4927eb2a302e","accessControl_ssim":["6f36899f-95fa-4567-b880-2f5b15f8d186"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Fire among the stubble: church renewal in the Wesleyan tradition"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:02:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:56:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2fe56237-7b73-4e14-bd1d-7115a5b7ddb0"],"hasLease_ssim":["2bd67e8c-700d-4dbf-b018-71db068a1351"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William Kirchhofer"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Organizational change","Free Methodist Church of North America","Evangelical Revival","Church controversies--Methodist Church","Church renewal--Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Beginning with the evangelical revival in eighteenth-century Great Britain and continuing with the formation of the Free Methodist Church in nineteenth-century America, the factors that contributed to the renewal of the church during these periods are examined. The conclusion notes seven areas of consensus, and the unique contributions of church health and revival to the renewal of the local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131803114799104,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:53:17.929Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:03:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:59:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ba31e80d-4d80-4fde-999c-d4ad7430b77b","accessControl_ssim":["31d8976b-5516-4d01-9386-46a2d97f0a17"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'What God has joined together': Andrew Murray's model for the revival and world mission of the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:03:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:29:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6695fd90-fed8-4a76-ae0f-cda824273fce"],"hasLease_ssim":["0e90f149-b6c2-4c5c-a03b-b7dd47d1918a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["South Africa"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John S Engle"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Evangelical Revival","Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk (South Africa)","Missions and Christian union","Murray, Andrew, 1828-1917"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis-project is an analysis of Andrew Murray's integration of the revival and world mission of the church, as evidenced throughout his career as a leader of the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa during the second half of the 19th century and beginning portion of the 20th. It is written from the perspective that this integration was seen by Murray as consistent with the divine pattern, and that it is the key to understanding the essence of the man and his ministry. The work begins with a brief biographical sketch of Murray's life and career, followed by a survey of the biblical-theological foundation on which his commitment to keeping the two truths of revival and missions together was built. The project then explores Murray's understanding of the church's unhealthy condition, along with his description of what was necessary for her to be restored to health. The work concludes with an analysis of six foundational principles in Murray's life that contributed to his own spiritual health and the resulting ability to work for the church's health for so many years."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132169892003840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:59:07.715Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":7,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":1,"label":"Dissertation"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"David T Wood","hits":1,"label":"David T Wood"},{"value":"Dewey D.
