The British school of object relations theory, especially Fairbairn and Guntrip, shows that 'splitting,' related to the introjection of the 'bad object,' is essential to a differentiated self. Psychopathology stems from rigidifying splits in the self. Healing depends on release of 'bad objects' in a transformational relationship, including transference with the therapist as 'good object.' An analogue, provided by Romans, is contact with Christ as 'good object'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134622614028288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:38:06.812Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:13:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6efd94c4-d2ed-4950-b8db-749bdb2f9e96","accessControl_ssim":["b566a1ff-c535-41f7-bb54-a1226554b999"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A spiritual dimension of gestalt therapy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:13:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:23:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["280bb6a1-5ab7-4435-ad11-0414d5cd1e55"],"hasLease_ssim":["0238e2fb-5357-404b-90ad-6829dac069e8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James B Ashbrook"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Carol A Killoran"],"publisher_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Gestalt therapy","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study explores the spiritual dimension in Gestalt therapy. Twenty-six clients of 4 pastoral Gestalt therapists and 26 clients of 5 non-pastoral Gestalt therapists were compared using both quantitative and qualitative methodology. The findings revealed that clients name God as a significant part of their life. This naming by the clients indicates that those engaged in Gestalt therapy can articulate having a spiritual awakening and/or religious experience while in therapy. The naming was more explicit with a pastoral Gestalt therapist. The research also identified that the 52 clients valued those moments when their therapist made a spiritual intervention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134625869856768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:38:09.918Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:09:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:05:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"087789eb-289d-4777-b27a-85afd3cba03b","accessControl_ssim":["c7f00d36-1970-417e-ad62-f087820910a6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Some implications and applications of Gestalt therapy for use in pastoral counseling"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:09:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:21:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["61e6a30e-d7fc-40a8-9bfa-ff4af3ef6cbe"],"hasLease_ssim":["7a0f76a0-8b3d-4d66-af5c-4bf2a6df9b55"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, MO)"],"advisor_tesim":["Joseph H Barbour"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lawrence J Zimmermann"],"publisher_tesim":["Concordia Seminary (MO)"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral counseling","Gestalt therapy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation is an evaluation of Gestalt theory in relation to principles of pastoral counseling, the person of the therapist, and selected approaches and their applicability to pastoral counseling. Biblical, theological and personal definitions of salvation provide a faith basis with which the author relates the perspectives and methods of Transactional Analysis and gestalt therapy, in particular. A processive, rather than a static, view of salvation provides the basic theological perspective for relating pastoral counseling and salvation. James E Loder's four-dimensional model by which he explored the dynamics of convictional experiences is criticized and expanded by process theology's perspective. An adapted Loderian model then provides a four-dimensional structure through which the author analyzes four case studies of psychotherapy processes and dynamics. The author's findings and conclusions are based primarily upon a review of literature using hand and computer research methods, as well as case material drawn from his personal experience in parish, agency, and private practice settings. The project concludes that Gestalt therapy is an appropriate mode of therapy in pastoral care. Both the Gestalt therapist and the Old Testament prophet employ imagery in similar fashion. Each perceives the universe, physical and mental, to be a single reality. While their theological conclusions are distinct, the goal of each is to restore harmony and balance to that which has been interrupted or disrupted. This is accomplished by bringing to awareness (a critique of) what actually exists in the present, and by developing animation (aliveness) to produce change in attitude, emotion and/or behavior."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128780794757120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:05:15.619Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:13:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:37:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5083a9bf-1697-4a57-bef0-49f0fe60e08a","accessControl_ssim":["8b36396b-19f9-4ef5-ba1b-fdbb4f12f043"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Attitude change in domestically violent men counseled in a marathon group"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:13:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:29:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["636d061a-b84e-428e-bdfe-b29f8fe19c66"],"hasLease_ssim":["27d4b7b5-8321-4f25-bd96-8c4ff7e130de"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Merle R Jordan"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Albert J Hoagland"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Psychotherapy","Abused women","Wit and humor","Femininity","Anger","Domestic relations","Violence","Gestalt therapy","Masculinity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The pre-test/post-test control group research design was conducted to evaluate various effects of an intensive, time-extended, Christian, Gestalt-oriented therapy group on the post-test scores of twelve domestically violent men compared to those of the control group.
