Believing that hope is rooted in an experiential encounter with God, this thesis first examines inaugural eschatology with its multi-dimensional view of the resurrection, i.e. the past event, the future promise, and the present reality, and contrasts it with dispensational eschatology. As a means to foster experiential encounters with God, this project used the celebrative narrative preaching design of Henry Mitchell and Frank Thomas. The design was contextualized for a primarily Anglo Baptist congregation in southern Oregon. In support of the preaching strategy, this thesis employed several inductive teaching models for the purpose of fostering an experiential encounter, including dynamic translation, progressional dialogue, and lectio divina."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e84517db-6a02-4e61-8d84-c85c5905f6d5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126996846116864,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:36:54.314Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:39:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"979b1f0e-9c6a-4a31-b4fb-fca8f94d6075","accessControl_ssim":["251a94fa-e64c-4478-b6fd-4177e2e6344c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Dueling with death: Christian funeral preaching as dialogue"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:39:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:33:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ac9f6dde-edf2-4a7c-8cfd-9bc34569108e"],"hasLease_ssim":["2a0a69fe-f925-459c-b332-2ad83b3d3edd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jerram Barrs"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jeremy Paul Muniz"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO)"],"subject_tesim":["Death","Presence of Jesus Christ","Resurrection","Funeral sermons","Preaching","Hope"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author research the biblical, historical, and current cultural views of death to discover a methodology for Christian funeral preachers that establishes a dialogue with death and presents mourners with the Scripture's resurrection hope. The kingdom offers an alternative paradigm in contrast to established evangelical forms grounded in human wisdom and understanding. Through biblical paradigms and statistical research, the author describes the condition of early 21st-century American Christianity. Through the use of systems thinking and cultural diagnosis he defines what he terms the 'seven deadly D's' of American church life. The kingdom of God is presented as the only theological systemic approach to remedy these maladies. This work is unique in its pastoral perspective, narrative style, and cognitive processing. Understanding the kingdom and learning to live and lead within a kingdom framework will equip many evangelical pastors, leaders, and laypeople to progress from personal burnout toward a more hopeful position. The significance of this work is in recovering the kingdom of God as the necessary biblical corrective to modern evangelical leadership formation and church practice. This includes implications for the rethinking of evangelicalism, a new approach to theology, and the formation of multidimensional leadership. This will assist 21st-century Christian leaders in dealing with complexity, diversity, changing spiritual paradigms, and interdenominational unity. This work investigates the immense consequences of resigning oneself to a detrimental thought life. It examines the relationships between antisocial behavior, substance abuse, and the origin of addictive thinking; focussing upon how every aspect of human development influences individual patterns of thought. The strategy is based on the redemptive thought causal loop diagram, and the development of a 'learning team' concept. This deliberation recognizes Jesus Christ as Lord and savior, and employs theological reflection to facilitate a biblical self-awareness via group process. It challenges the potential of people to change detrimental and status quo mental models in the face of individual and systemic adversity. The model emphasizes the overwhelming importance of the practitioner's conscious use of the Bible and prayer. The methodology both instructs and demonstrates that through the development of a biblical understanding of the thought process, one can begin to shape a healthier mind that is fully subject to God (2 Cor 10:5). The hypothesis is presented through the diverse cultural lens of the learning team and how they have managed to survive in spite of social exigencies. It explores the deep often unconscious, negative beliefs and assumptions held about themselves and society and brings hope through redemptive thought. The question the thesis poses, 'How can redemptive thought bring hope to an addictive personality?' is developed around the theme written by the apostle Paul found in the New Testament book addressed to Titus in chapter 2. Paul's argument challenges the men, by using theological reflection, to excavate Scriptural truth (see especially Titus 2:11-15)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132861069262848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:10:06.873Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:50:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:03:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c738eeed-bff4-4a07-885d-95a0b07acea3","accessControl_ssim":["bdd045f5-1fd7-429b-82b9-470af63128fe"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching hope to first generation Filipino immigrants"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:50:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:51:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d800943d-2cbe-47d0-a05d-61a3064607e6"],"hasLease_ssim":["0793889f-7edb-4053-8f77-a5831eb2f7d2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul S Allen"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Leofin Ramos Blanco"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Narration (Rhetoric)","Hope","Filipino Americans","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Preaching that best addresses the struggles and aspirations of first generation immigrants is characterized by a welcoming, gentle, empowering, and healing authority embodied in a narrative style of preaching. Some of the people were teary-eyed, a few felt energized, and several faces were radiant--responses indicating that a redemptive transformation took place in peoples' lives.
