Action research formed the basis of the project. Following the interim period, the author collected data from the congregation through a questionnaire and individual interviews. A manual was developed, featuring training modules in Appreciative Inquiry, and other resources to reframe the crisis and to empower lay leadership. The thesis is that interim ministry can be carried out effectively using spiritual guidance, rather than management, as the central organizing principle.  Methodology is to survey relevant literature, describe the social framework, explore family systems concepts of homeostasis, differentiation, and emotional triangles, form spirituality groups to explore spiritual guidance, and formulate conclusions.  The study resulted in raised sense of sacred presence and congregational well being in spite of the anxieties associated with the interim
