These challenges can include financial and health concerns, future living arrangements, final wishes, and discovering the ultimate value of one's own life. Tragically, however, widows, widowers, the never-married and divorcees are often left to contend with such issues alone. Meanwhile they may have adult children who will also be deeply affected by these issues, and are able to help. But that help rarely comes. Instead silence, ignorance, and misunderstanding prevail between the generations regarding the realities that will impact them both. This project is an examination of these issues and the reasons that prevent aging parents and their adult children from discussing them constructively. This project developed a seminar to encourage older women in practical godliness that they could teach in their churhces. The nine participants in Chimbote, Peru, were evaluated three months later to determine content remembered, behavioral impact, and experiences as they taught in their churches. It begins by identifying the problem of preachers being ill-equipped and under-prepared for the task of preaching by their formal theological education.  More specifically, classical theological education addresses preaching to specific target audiences on only a limited basis.  The perspective of this project is that specifically focused preaching enhances the effectiveness of communication.  In addition, little has been written and taught regarding preaching to older adults, as opposed to younger generations.  Preaching must address the reality that the population of the United States is growing older.  This thesis addresses ways to communicate biblical truths to aging adults more effectively.  It surveys contemporary literature which addresses issues relevant to the elderly. The project also includes a self-study for preachers who preach regularly, exploring specific themes for preaching, unique characteristics of older adults, ways in which the Bible addresses particular issues faced by older adults, and ways in which preachers can use more inclusive language in the wording of the sermon. Discussion focuses on the problem of suffering and belief in a God of love.  The status and role of traditional and recent theodices within a pastoral context, liturgical issues, including the doctrine of God and Universalism in funeral rites, and the nature of trauma and its personal implications, are all explored.  Case studies involving tragic bereavement through suicide by drowning with no body to grieve over;  pre-natal bereavement of embryo twins;  and a neo-natal death of a seven day old baby are presented.  Short-term support of funeral services is considered, along with the establishment and development of longer-term support strategies of a Pastoral team, Pastoral library and Pastoral guidelines. The research method included randomized and nonrandomized samples utilizing two control groups and three experimental groups.  Five testing instruments were used.  The project director employed a sermon series from I Corinthians, an intergenerational discipleship course, a young adult course on senior adulthood, and an intergenerational activity council during the implementation of the project.  Each group was observed and tested to determine if intergenerational koinonia had been achieved. To accomplish this task, open-ended interviews with seven women in the 73-78 year-old range have been conducted: two married, two single, two widowed, and one divorced. Additionally, there have been conversations with the daughters of a second divorced woman who died before the scheduled interview. Responses to the survey are discussed in light of the theories presented. Psychological theories include the psychosocial stages of Erik Erikson, the constructive developmental approach of Robert Kegan, object relations theory, and a study of faith development using the stages of faith of James Fowler.  The conclusion summarizes eight major findings and discusses four implications for pastoral
