Subsequently, it demonstrates that the Pyongyang revival possessed limitations due to its historical context, and that is how the prayer revival of 1857-1859 can be used to revitalize the prayer practices of the Korean-American church. The two revivals shared many things in common: both of them occurred in the midst of crisis and helped people to overcome the difficulties, prayer played a major role, and they were influenced by other global revivals and also influenced them. However, significant differences occurred between them. The prayer revival was solemn, led by lay leadership, and had strong emphasis on the conversion of the lost. The Pyongyang revival was loud, led by pastor missionaries, and confession of sins was the major concern."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132611440017408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:06:08.807Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:25:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"105e02c9-8a72-4de2-ae26-fd5258236695","accessControl_ssim":["df3ebb34-2532-46e6-84d5-904949d806b8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The eccentric vicar of Everton: John Berridge: the Cambridge Revival, and the life of pastoral ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:25:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:35:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["654ace04-0947-4d90-a6ec-09bd2c493fda"],"hasLease_ssim":["8962e84f-af64-4555-8805-b83ca8713ea1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"location_tesim":["Great Britain"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David T Wood"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Justification (Christian theology)--History of doctrines","Berridge, John, 1716-1793","Evangelicalism","Evangelical Revival","Revivals","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation will analyze the life and ministry of the evangelical pastor, John Berridge of Everton (1716-1973) who stood as the central figure in the Cambridgeshire Revival (1759), the Calvinist Controversy (1773), and whose life intersected with most of the key figures in the English Evangelical Revival. The purpose of this study is to reintroduce the figure of John Berridge to a contemporary readership. Second it will argue that it is John Berridge's appropriation of the post-Reformational experiential tradition with its re-discovery of justification by faith that is foundational to his conversion, surrounds his experience in the Cambridgeshire Revival, and sustains his ministry in Everton. Finally using Berridge's life and ministry as an example, this study will reflect on the key issues facing pastors in the current cultural milieu: the need to re-cover the doctrine of justification by faith in pastoral preaching and ministry, understanding the context and natiue of the revival, the challenge of pastoring in and through revival, the prerequisite of a sustained ministry, and finishing well."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129916545171456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:18.756Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:18:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:46:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"76defc85-f1be-422d-b73c-455bcc417a77","accessControl_ssim":["9f467384-b9cc-4c5c-acb5-554fc795ff42"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Christ-centered renewal: the growth of the Moravian Church Southern Province from 1877 to 1930"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:18:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:37:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["953fdf0f-6dd1-4abc-9bda-2319108fe22b"],"hasLease_ssim":["0e3a14e8-050e-4fe0-b719-f62938208b97"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell","Robert Mayer"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy G Sapp"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Rondthaler, Edward, 1842-1931","Moravian Church--History","Revivals","Christian life","Evangelistic work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis project focused on a period of time for the Moravian Church of America Southern Province from 1877 to 1930. Dr. John Sung spoke to the Chinese people in various meetings and many turned to the Lord. While preaching, Dr. Sung would often spontaneously interrupt the preaching to lead the congregation in hymnal choruses. The singing plus his message led many people to the Lord. In the 1990's, the Chinese churches in China increased rapidly and many people were spiritually revived and came to know the Lord. One of the reasons why the number of Christians has grown in China has been because of how God has used a young village girl, Xiao Min, to write hundreds of worship hymns by the moving of the Holy Spirit and many were moved by the hymnal singing. This thesis is a study of the relationship between spiritual revival and the singing of worship songs by using the Canaan hymns in Chinese churches as a central case study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132338619416576,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:01:48.625Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:58:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:58:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b92e35f0-01da-47c0-a89f-edd8a5d34455","accessControl_ssim":["825fb8e1-fcc2-4d19-a258-5112293831f7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Head, heart, and hands discipling: the historical road to lasting revival"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:58:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:28:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["35cfb1d3-5fb7-444a-af8b-c68683a2bef8"],"hasLease_ssim":["280213fb-611a-44b1-8f26-780273a0416d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Keith A Blank"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Discipling (Christianity)","Church renewal","Christian education of adults","Revivals","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author intends to introduce a method by which churches can revive their members by instituting a program of head, heart, and hands discipling and to build a template for pastors and leaders to use in evaluation of prospective programs. The author believes that the term 'revival' has been misunderstood in view of the biblical meaning and needs to be redefined for the modern church. We can be renewed by focusing on the fact that God has sent us a Savior and being Christ's body here on earth. Churches can turn this concept into an action plan for their congregation by instituting a program that honors Christ's methods of discipling and the activities of the historical revivalists, appealing to the whole person: head, heart, and hands. John Wesley's class meeting system was successful because it focused on these elements. The Navigators are a modern-day example. Historical methods of head, heart, and hands discipling are a valuable tool for church renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132154974961664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:53.489Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:49:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:59:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dba10b8f-48b0-4fb0-a58a-6ef769c96157","accessControl_ssim":["7f291021-f14a-40b9-85c3-a6a28e9ceeed"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The role of preaching scripture in promoting revival"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:49:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:24:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f54b2698-5c71-49a6-bc5e-26c7eb30dc35"],"hasLease_ssim":["461f4985-bcd4-4af3-a39e-f7c6ccda7563"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David L Larsen"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Harold James Toews"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Homiletic use","Preaching--Theory","Church renewal","Preaching--Biblical teaching","Expository preaching","Revivals"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Role of Preaching Scripture in Promoting Revival provides a theological basis for understanding revival and how preaching God's Word contributes to fostering it.
