counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Traditional Christians are struggling to hold fast to a biblical perspective on the issue of homosexuality. The situation is complicated as individuals come to know, through work or school, people who display homosexual behaviors. The struggle comes as the result of two conflicting ideas: the biblical teachings opposing homosexual activity and the relational experiences connecting people together. As a result, severe stress comes when a member of a traditional Christian family announces they are homosexual. This thesis seeks to demonstrate an approach to counseling families in distress that is both biblically sound and psychologically effective. The approach will be integrative, applying a theologically supported, structural relations oriented approach looking at the context of the family. The difference between the pretest and posttest in the desire of the Christian adolescents to abstain from premarital sex was statistically significant. The thesis develops the biblical/theological basis for healthy sexuality with a theoretical basis. The research design covers a three month time period. Couples were tested before the course and then again after three month. Using the qualitative research method of phenomenology, this research explores how Black women's experiences and other sources for theological ethics can inform their desire to reconcile sexual and spiritual goodness. The research focus was to assess each ministry against five hypotheses through the use of the Congregational Sexual Healing Questionnaire (CSHQ). Successful ministries offered healing from sexual brokenness because they are Biblically based and Christocentric; because they employ the use of healing prayer; because they offer different levels of grace centered accountability; and because they focus on both the past and the ideal future of their participants. It uses a mixed method design that incorporated both descriptive and quantitative data analyses in an effort to determine the impact of: 1) family of origin and past life experiences, 2) missionary life stress, and 3) the practice of different disciplines on the lives of missionary men serving in cross-cultural contexts overseas. Overseas male missionaries from five North American evangelical mission agencies (617 men) were asked to participate in an anonymous web-based survey with 226 men completing the survey. Prevalent themes and factors impacting male missionary sexual purity emerged in the study. Study results point to the importance of past life experiences, the impact of cross-cultural life stresses, and the employment of specific disciplines. However, Christian leaders over the centuries have often instilled within its followers a negative viewpoint of sex. After tracing the evolution of Christian ideas regarding the subject, this paper examines research literature regarding the correlations between Christianity and sexuality. This report also examines embodiment theology as a potential antidote to Christian negations of sexuality as well as the research regarding how a Christian affirmation of sexuality correlates with sexual satisfaction. Following this, it offers the conclusions of a phenomenological, qualitative research project that explored how a group of men in a small, suburban, Christian church received embodiment theology as well as its impacts on their theology and sexual
