Ten participants were trained through a five-session workshop that culminated with a weekend retreat. The workshop was entitled, 'Spiritual Formation through Solitude with God.' The workshop was based around the five areas of solitude: stillness, silence, sin, service, and speak. Research has shown that older adults are helped by someone who asks questions about the past.  Loneliness and depression are common symptoms of older adults.  Without a feeling that life has had meaning in the past it is easy to lose identity and integrity.  Life review helps maintain a person's integrity, identity, and self-worth.  It provides a legacy to the younger generation.  It can help a person cope with loss, grief, and depression. It explores pastors' experiences with and their denial of loneliness.  The study explores both the necessity and the possibility of embracing loneliness within pastoral ministry.  The disclosive sample of five married, parish-based Lutheran clergy, basically through interviews and a nine-month long group seminar, expresses and engages experiences of loneliness in pastoral ministry.  It is discovered that loneliness is a real experience in pastoral ministry, often experienced and perceived in negative terms.
