The project started with presentations of biblical and theological perspectives on preaching in relation to life situations and historical and sociological perspectives on Korean immigrants in parallel to biblical and other immigrants. The project continued with a survey conducted on a typical Korean immigrant congregation to reveal how sermons influence them and change their perception of what is going on in their lives. The project also included manuscripts of sermons delivered to the congregation during this process. The conclusion of the project was to display the value of sermons that seek to change lives as well as the importance of the faithfulness and humility of the preachers to the Word of God. The project was to establish the case that Korean preachers can deliver sermons that transform their people by connecting the timeless biblical truths with their contextualized, personal, ethnic, and cultural style."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717402156466176,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:43.226Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:21:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"081b0dd4-c143-4cc8-9173-fec465f9795f","accessControl_ssim":["bbfec1bf-443e-43d0-be4b-76708c8ec230"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Toward a framework for a cultural hermeneutic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:21:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7e2612ac-94d2-43c8-8dc3-5f1d7fd7d054"],"hasLease_ssim":["a42db726-74be-403d-8e30-d07a2c598f77"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rodney Cooper"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Alan G Cole"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Culture--Study and teaching","Christianity and culture","Theology, Contextual"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis project explored the correlation between cultural exegesis and attitudes towards the surrounding community. These values provide themes for a contextual theology distinctive to the region. The paper looks at one northern Virginian congregation, which professes a classic, confessional theology. It concludes that the congregation's theology and ministry are contextualized. They are viewed as often congruent but also dissonant with the congregation's received tradition. Leaders are challenged to focus upon their essential obedience to the Word as they do theology and ministry in northern Virginia."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133313466892288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:17:18.313Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:44:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:06:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b78d1930-1700-449c-944b-f928304032cd","accessControl_ssim":["66a974a9-d193-4e84-93e5-4f6b64437f3a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Planning a theological education program in a cross-cultural setting"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:44:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:25:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b0ef2679-4d56-4783-897f-2f7b9ac6d7be"],"hasLease_ssim":["e6e9163e-5b30-43ae-9c26-6ca81e0a5ced"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas J Kopp"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Educational planning","Leadership--Religious aspects","Cross-cultural studies","Theology, Contextual","Religious education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is designed as a tool for missionaries who will undertake the task of developing a viable and relevant theological training program in a cross-cultural setting. Three steps were involved in the project: sociological-sociopsychological understanding of the culture, theological formation, and application. Having surveyed 26 authors on the commoners' culture, Hidaka submits a model of understanding culture in terms of the wa (concord-peace-harmony) value system--a diachronic and organismic interplay of value variables, including mythopoetic perception, rational lifestyle, consensus group-formation, and the societal mandala, each with processes of experiential dialectics. The theological formation takes adjectival expressions.
