Espousing a 'Theology of Helpful Trauma,' the author asserts that crises are developmentally significant opportunities for maturation and encourages clergy and other leaders to facilitate development in crisis  rather than work to control it.  Four 'touchstones' are provided which empower leaders within such situation to encourage development. It is a collection of interviews and articles which document the current movement of community wide unity among the evangelical churches in the city of Modesto, California.  The study begins with the Billy Graham Crusade in 1948 and includes over fourteen separate events or ministries through 1998.  Those studied are both responses to the hand of God as well as proactive movements by community leaders to work together.  The work concludes with three basic concepts which the author believes are transferrable to other communities who are interested in generating a similar community wide church unity. Favoring the insiders' perspective, it explores needs assessment and participant observation as tools for initial (outsider) pastoral listening in a Mexicano Catholic immigrant faith community in southern Colorado. Through a critical review of leadership research and a word study, it relates stakeholder findings to Joseph Rost's relational concept of leadership, as well as to Ronald Heifetz's leadership task of promoting adaptive change. The Mission Society informs the congregation of mission work and mission opportunities in the United States and abroad. Further information reveals a variety of Mission Societies to accomplish that purpose. The theological study of 'God's mission' contributes to the scriptural knowledge of the student. Students discover God's worldview and His cross-cultural churches of the first century. The project provides assistance to the pastor in carrying out his ministerial task of Word and Sacrament. It increases awareness of mission challenges within the community, the Circuit, the District and the Synod. Foreign and local missions receive the benefit of the congregation's total participation in the undertaking. In contrast, sermons that carefully consider the unique faith perspective of a congregation create a richer encounter with the gospel for a particular time and place. This approach honors the priesthood of all believers through the collaborative crafting of a statement of local theology, and reflects the postmodern ethos of the American church by attending to the specific characteristics and perspectives of a local community of faith.  This study examines how one congregation crafts a provisional statement in the formation and evaluation of sermons. The study focuses on the question: What is a good death?  A single case study approach is used and the data are collected, analyzed, and synthesized using Narrative Inquiry Methods. It was concluded that Andy did have a good death experience and that quality of relationships are key in determining whether a person dies well or not.
