These relationships incorporate mentors who are both military professionals and mentors who are religious leaders of integrity. Using a mixed methods approach to descriptive research, the author researched biblical and historical methods of discipleship, ministerial formation, modern research in mentoring, and surveyed chaplains about personal experiences with mentors during their early military careers. This grief was experienced after leaving home in their host country from the loss produced by the unavailability of attachments that anchored their lives. The primary focus of the study was to determine whether or not there were correlations between attachment to God, resilience, and grief. I first explore the biblical and systematic theology of Christlike maturity. Next, I describe a series of interviews in which the three most common emerging themes affecting spiritual growth among graduate students were: limited time, the need for community, and spiritual growth through crises. Understanding blind spots, amygdala hijacks, feedback, and self-awareness is key to growth in personal and professional relationships. A three-month training module, including the MSCEIT and personal x-rays, resulted in EI growth among GEM's leadership team. Questions addressed include how to be more self-aware; how to give/receive feedback; understanding big assumptions or hidden competing commitments that prevent EI growth; and how to most effectively lead others by modeling high relational skills. This thesis too recounts the political, social, and religious tensions that existed in pre-Revolutionary North Carolina and examines the role that the regulator movement and the Battle of Alamance would play in stifling the evangelistic efforts of the Separate Baptists in the frontier regions of the colony during that period. A prayer guide was used during the forty day exercise. Interviews and a questionnaire were used to capture the participants' prayer practices before and after the forty days. The analysis of the participants' responses provided the research with a before and after picture of the participant's prayer lives. It is theorized, using Bowlby's Theory of Attachment, that one cause of such behavior may be a lack of attachment with a mothering figure during infancy.  When a person exhibiting these characteristics enters marriage, there can be numerous difficulties with the spouse and later with any children. The effects of a women's Type A personality upon the relationships with others in her family are examined through the use of a case study with one family in therapy.
