It was a program developed by a group in the congregation under the author's leadership.  This program engaged a significant number from the congregation in a study throughout ten months of a year that involved biblical, historical, theological and pastoral aspects of Christian worship, and the development of a planning process for worship services. The first learning event describes the facilitation of a series of three training sessions in which skilled Catholic campus ministers came together to design a training and renewal experience.  The second learning event describes how the methodology and theory of the initial training sessions was carried out in a training and renewal program. The methods used were sociologically framed and praxis based. They were informed by qualitative research (grounded theory) and colored by the author's own poetic, intuitive learning. Each of these groups implemented one or more church growth programs during this ten-year period. The study of these groups showed strengths and weaknesses which are reflected in the projected four-year plan of church growth for the Free Methodists. Part I covers the development of Christianity in the Philippines beginning with the Spanish entrance in 1517 and continuing through World War II; part II gives an in-depth study of the development of the Free Methodist Church in the Philippines; part III studied the individual church growth programs of other related denominations; and part IV compares the different strategies and assimilates their strengths into a workable program of church growth for the Free Methodist Church in the Philippines. The manual which was developed for this purpose was tested at the Salvation Army School for Officers' Training in Chicago, Illinois.  The manual was divided into three sections: 1. development of interpersonal relations; 2. a theological perspective of personality development; and 3. sources for dealing with behavioral difficulties.  The participants consisted of a group of thirteen students who had completed the prerequisite course in Introduction to Psychology and were in their final year of training.  They completed two examinations and several evaluation forms that provided data for the write-up of the project.  Other participants included five outside readers who made observations of the manual from the perspective of their particular expertise. Tests used were the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Role Preference Inventory, Inventory of Spiritual Gifts plus several self-discovery exercises and journaling.  Six participants attended eight two-hour sessions.  Lectures and Bible studies and group discussion aided in personal discoveries of grace-gifts and how they can be used in a congregation and community. Results of the study indicated that grace-gifts can be identified by this method but that more information is needed from both congregation and community that suggests specific ways these grace-gifts can be used. The Anoka program, presented to jail administration and local clergy by the author in 1983, included the following essentials: 1. a firm, two-year clergy commitment; 2. two initial sessions of orientation and training for clergy and laymen; and 3. semi-annual meetings to evaluate and expand jail ministry skills.  The program was accepted and began in April, 1984, with thirteen clergy taking turns in providing a weekly ministry. A steering committee was chosen to direct the program.
