It begins with an examination of the nature and origin of the visual arts with particular attention to the cartoon as an art form. The study then examines the role of humor in human experience. It looks at the use of humor in the biblical narrative and its place in religious experience. The theological implications of humor are explored through the use of humorous treatments of theological themes. The study then examines the psychology of the self and the ways in which humor can be beneficial in gaining a deeper understanding of the self and explores the human spiritual journey with suggested ways in which humor can facilitate that quest. From this study implications for youth ministry were drawn."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715448571297792,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:40.142Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:15:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:21:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"27a71a81-5651-4e8a-8b66-a86fac346717","accessControl_ssim":["c8ba45ef-4e53-4a43-a60d-f759a0606213"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The inner city church: its problems and its potential"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:15:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:17:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ff254ef8-0075-4e91-8e81-03f7f5406197"],"hasLease_ssim":["722e67fa-05db-42a2-a51f-5d03521290c1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred Graham"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul Livingston"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["City churches","Sunnyslope Presbyterian Church, Phoenix, Ariz","Sociology, Urban","North Presbyterian Church (Lansing, Mich)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper attempts to deal with the causes, problems and effects of inner city areas and churches. Contributing factors to the phenomenon of the inner city church are psychological, sociological, political and economic. In conjunction with references to literature and personal observation, there is a model for church judicatories in their work with inner city churches. Along with the literature search, a questionnaire was distributed to all congregations within the presbytery and six case studies were conducted. The author also investigates the relevance of the Church Growth and Small Church Movements for the Australian Church. The major external influences focus upon the process of secularization and the cyclical movement of the growth and decline of churches within Sydney associated with the predominance of the middle class. Suggestions for appropriate action are found within the conclusion."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721131767234560,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:17:00.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:14:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:41:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bd93a30f-6b7c-49ed-a61c-449d51687be9","accessControl_ssim":["e318ea3f-43cc-4d1a-b410-fe5253e694fe"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Incorporating youth in the life and mission of the St. Thomas Assembly of God"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:14:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:35:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5e12093c-0f32-4158-ac82-0e4750396a1d"],"hasLease_ssim":["f3e21fd1-ef9c-4ffe-bb13-64956cbe922c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William R Nelson"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Carlton Llewellyn Williams"],"keyword_tesim":["Youth-adult relationship"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["St Thomas Assembly of God","Church work with youth","Adolescence","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Youth is the church's greatest challenge as well as its greatest resource. Against this backdrop, this study focused on incorporating youth in the life and mission of the St Thomas Assembly of God. To facilitate this, adults and adolescents were called upon to recognize their weaknesses and seek for harmony. Adults must be engaged in mission for, by, and with youth and never fail to recognize them as a part of the people of God.
