The project also seeks to affirm laity in the process of ministerial formation. Three program goals include: (1) to establish local church lay support committees for students, (2) to hold a three hour conference, involving faculty, students, and laity, on laity's involvement in theological education, and (3) provide supervisory training for laity through on-site visits by faculty. Research was done in an attempt to answer this question.  The proper church officials and the church's ministry are identified in twelve church groups. The significance of cultural variety in our social system and its parallel implications speak to the ministry of the local church. This dissertation/project assists in meeting this need by producing a set of presuppositions for Christian initiation composed of theological assumptions, goals and guidelines for use in designing a programme of education for Christian initiation for youth and adults within the United Church of Canada.  The first obvious question, 'do any other denominations have good programmes available?' led to a study of some samples of selected mainline Canadian and American churches. The primary tool involves daily use of an imagery model outlined in Getting Well Again, (Simonton, Simonton, and Creighton) with five persons whose physical dysfunction of prolonged duration serves as an indicator of stress.  The group meets weekly for reporting and sharing for a three month period.  A pre-test and post-test procedure uses the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Luschene). This study is theologically informed by the concept of faith as grace with courage, the power enabling individuals to encounter and calm the anxiety of finitude.  The research designed is quasi-experimental using a pretest, posttest and comparison group.  It is an outcome study. Total participants in the study numbered 68.  Statistical analysis consisted of an analysis of variance and linear step regression of gain scores.  The research hypothesis was affirmed at the .05 level of significance. This project sought to assist such growth through developing personal learning plans based on ministry needs in a supportive group context.  Ten Fort Wayne Lutheran pastors met monthly for eight months. Beginning with lay and self-evaluation of pastoral functions, each pastor developed a learning plan complete with goals, resources, time table and accountability structure. The desire of the study was to make available material, and instruction which would help to prepare the practical materials, providing information for the survivors of the deceased listing the desires of the deceased for his or her bodily disposal.
