The project contains a literature review of the biblical foundation for church membership and the historical development of church membership, followed by two case studies. Church membership in America is declining, and many church leaders wrestle with the place of membership within their own organizations. Many church leaders overlook the role that a membership process can have in the development of disciples. The case studies included in this paper are two examples of churches that seek to use their membership process to enhance discipleship. These churches have a robust process that clearly communicates the expectations of the church with systems in place for accountability and follow-up. Churches that adopt these practices have the opportunity to develop, enhance, or transform a membership process with the goal of better accomplishing Jesus' command of making disciples."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130923804131328,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:19.353Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:12:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:49:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0fb277e8-4274-42b4-9df5-fa3b73480232","accessControl_ssim":["78255e70-c99f-4edb-b041-f3141a7394f9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Social action and evangelism: envisioning a new relational paradigm for 21st-century American Christianity"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:12:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:34:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3bd62e9c-545b-45e8-b501-5b615d7dc361"],"hasLease_ssim":["c69e0af4-0ed6-4318-a4d1-0f92d411ee30"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Matthew B Queen"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James B Carroll"],"keyword_tesim":["Commissions--Biblical teaching"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","History","Christian ethics","Social action"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Social action and evangelism: envisioning a new relational paradigm for twenty-first-century American Christianity"],"abstract_tesim":["For the church to effectively minister to a lost and hurting world, in the midst of an ever-burgeoning segregation between social action and evangelism, it must first come to grips with the fullness of its past and present. The polycentric model is where the 'mother' church and a cluster of one or more 'ethnic' churches operate separately on the same campus. Very few of these churches have transitioned to become truly multiracial and continue to either decline or plateau. This dissertation examines the history, underlying assumptions, possible influence, and effectiveness of polycentric churches, and provides a critique of such churches against a theological backdrop. The dissertation's goal is to educate and persuade racially homogeneous churches, in general, and polycentric churches, in particular, to consider transitioning toward multiracial congregations in order to achieve real church health and growth."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132589445087232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:47.832Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:11:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"336fde1a-cdd3-478c-95e3-7f9dd5939314","accessControl_ssim":["f0804f42-8eb2-487c-9536-627a42a60a31"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The role of emotion at the point of persuasion in preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:11:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:37:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bb6e9f82-f6ec-4ed2-8294-c68a8bc6f660"],"hasLease_ssim":["ba5494d0-5747-458a-a46f-ee26376d820b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Matthew Fender McKellar"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark C Roath"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith","Preaching--Theory","Emotions","Persuasion (Psychology)","Cognitive dissonance","Decision making","Holy Spirit"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Emotion's role at the point of persuasion is to provide presence, understanding, dissonance and movement. It discusses the biblical basis of a multi-site church, the seven key theological concepts in the Old and New Testaments relevant to the life of a local church, and provides a biblical definition of the church. Chapter 4 presents the essential functions of a New Testament church, chapter 5 summarizes the guiding principles in operating a multi-site church, chapter 6 evaluates the present ministry of GCF and accompanying propsed recommendations, and chapter 7 provides a summary of conclusions from the project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131740781150208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:18.483Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:11:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:54:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3858b720-f546-4e67-8aeb-b876f63f68bc","accessControl_ssim":["3284128b-7a9b-4515-88d7-01cb535b32ad"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Building Ferguson Road Baptist Church into an indigenous multiethnic church in a multiethnic community in East Dallas"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:11:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:45:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dd901a8d-82b3-4e02-9364-6a0e1c16be11"],"hasLease_ssim":["09d65a9e-2b60-486f-a55f-a9bf1d5f6ab4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John M Yeats"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Wayne W Wible"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community","Congregations--Self-evaluation"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Church--Biblical teaching","Congregations","Mission of the church","Globalization--Religious aspects","Baptists","Ferguson Road Baptist Church (Dallas, Tex)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation proposes a unique new model for church revitalization and growth, adopted by this particular local church after studying and analyzing ways to reach out to evangelize and minister to the people in an extremely demographically diverse community.
