In keeping with the equipping model, the project began with the project director's research in the field of philosophical ethics and pastoral ethics. The project director also researched the age, pastoral experience, and education level of the bivocational pastors in four Baptist associations within a fifty-mile radius of Wallace State Community College. Upon completion of the research, the project director developed curriculum based upon the findings from the research. For this project the author celebrated the Lord's Supper during his church's regular service for six consecutive weeks. Special attention was given to the use of music, multimedia, and liturgy so the flow of worship would move the congregants to celebration of the sacrament. Pastor-spiritual directors, elders, and scholars in spirituality were interviewed. The author explored his congregation's historical and sociological setting. His findings indicate a disconnection between reason and spirituality. Spiritual direction is emerging in a church crisis of spiritual decline. For historical perspective, he turned to John Calvin, Karl Rahner, and Howard Thurman. Additional insights came from biblical study, spiritual theologians, and contemporary church leaders. After the preaching skills were identified, the project director developed a series of sermons on biblical stewardship incorporating research conducted on stewardship. The project director preached the series of sermons utilizing the identified expository preaching skills. The project director solicited feedback from a selected group of members of Ellaville Baptist Church via a sermon feedback form. This project considers how a local church jail ministry team can help address this problem through a weekly recovery-focused Bible study. Serving as chaplain volunteers, a men's team and a women's team entered the jail bringing a focus on Twelve Step Recovery while examining biblical roots of the steps. Educational and substance abuse professionals were enlisted to review materials utilized in the development of the workshop. The project director also utilized scripture to validate and support the treatment approach. The project director assisted Christian lay counselors in conceptualizing the nature and character of substance dependence. The project director enabled Christian lay counselors to provide substance dependence treatment by combining a faith-based and twelve-step model. The first phase explored the fields of multigenerational worship and strategic planning. The first part of the second phase required the project director to equip the pastoral staff of FBCM in the basic skills of strategic planning and to inform them concerning the dynamics of multigenerational worship. The second part of the second phase required the project director to lead the pastoral staff team to develop a strategy to transition FBCM from venue worship to a multigenerational worship model. Phase three resulted in the deacon fellowship and church council of FBCM approving the strategic plan and the time line for implementation.
