The forty-day emphasis taught the congregation to understand and appropriate their God-given role in the preaching moment. The effectiveness of the study was illustrated by entry and exit surveys taken by the class participants. Survey questions focused on both the students' understanding and behavior in relationship to the role of the Holy Spirit in the preaching moment. The declaration of the self-existent and transcendent creator God in the opening statement of chapter one functions as the theological cornerstone of all biblical revelation. The theological framework and biblical doctrines from Genesis 1-3, set a stage of God's historical and eschatological plan for all humanity. With the socio-political openness and rapid economic growth that has recently occurred, more Chinese people have become capable of going overseas to study, vacation, work, or migrate. Many intellectuals and new immigrants have experienced Christianity and the culture of local Chinese churches in the United States. College campuses and their surrounding cities have become new 'mission fields' where evangelistic apologetic work becomes imperatively and strategically significant. A study of Genesis 1-3 focusing on biblical doctrines will help Chinese intellectuals and immigrants to reevaluate their embedded Chinese traditional thought, philosophy, Confucianism and atheistic worldview. This desire to encourage first-time pastors is the heart of this dissertation's work. The dissertation is an attempt to provide assistance to first-time pastors in order to possibly prevent what happened to the writer from happening to them. First-time pastors encounter ministry challenges. these ministerial challenges can be overcome through encouragement received in relationships with seasoned mentors such as directors of missions. In the Korean-American community, as illustrated by the situation in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the church may be failing to develop and implement intentional ministries toward the elderly. Among numerous Korean churches in the area (over one-hundred local congregations), only three churches have programmatic ministries for seniors. The following dissertation first examines the Bible for a proper understanding of the place of seniors in the church. On the basis of this biblical understanding of the elderly, three of the more successful senior ministry programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are studied. Various survey data are presented and analyzed. The dissertation then compares the ministries among the three programs and, more importantly, to the biblical view of the elderly. The Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam together provide a lens for transforming Christian education. The frame of deep pluralism reinforces both openness and faithfulness. Congregants become 'confirmed' (strengthened together) as Christian 'confidels' (with faith) as they faithfully emulate Christ's incorporative love and appreciate other traditions. After the departure of their long-term pastor, South Church faced internal, communal, and cultural transitions. This project used narrative tools to reconnect the congregation to their biblical, communal and personal faith stories. The three tools were 1) a Lenten-Eastertide sermon series; 2) remembering the church's history using their 250th anniversary banners; and 3) an Appreciative Inquiry process. Bible references as source inspiration are provided with each spiritual. A professional panel of twenty-one educators evaluated the curriculum. They found it was an objective presentation of the history of slavery and the spirituals.
