Research indicated a ministry need for such a resource. Scripture was surveyed for additional insight into parental pedagogy, the child, and the 'image of God.' The dependent variable in this project was the effectiveness of the confirmation program in meeting the identified core ministry value. The researcher concluded that the following independent variable had no statistical significance on effectiveness: primary goal of the confirmation program, geographic location of the church, class size, length of confirmation program, age student began confirmation, confirmation teacher's philosophy of education, and curriculum used. Finally, the researcher conducted a phone survey to other PCUSA churches to discuss how they train their elders. The researcher's program was implemented in 2008. This thesis was tested in a workshop with the elders of Sparta Baptist Church. Three inventories evaluated their level of faith, love and hope, respectively. These were accompanied by teaching about the triad's implications for holistic formation of church members and ministry focus. Old and New Testament passages on teams and teamwork provided the foundation. Human resources, business, church and volunteer leadership literature complement the biblical study and theological reflection. Ethnographically oriented primary and secondary data culminated in sixty-three model recommendations. Recommendations for team structure, systems and maintaining healthy team relationships are addressed. Specific instructional materials considered in the project were from 'Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.' Data was gathered, measured, and analyzed through the use of an identical survey tool administered both 'pre' and 'post' project.
