A questionnaire was disseminated and the results indicate that spiritual vitality is considered essential to doing the job of a Christian Navy Medicine chaplain.  The overwhelming majority of participants also indicated that practicing time management and self-care are extremely important. Data was drawn from the examination of selected biblical, historical, theological, and contemporary literature, and from two identical quantitative surveys and one qualitative survey given to small group participants from the First United Church of Christ in Shelby, Ohio. Boards of directors governing their sponsored ministries are charged with assuring their mission and spiritual heritage continues to permeate corporate life. This study contributes to illumining boards' collaborative participation in expressing charism through mission, as it affects their service, and sponsors' own understanding of their charism. Engaging practical theological methodology, it brings the charism and mission of one congregation into conversation with current board leadership literature and with contextual experience of boards. To gain an understanding of how abuse of women has become widespread, the project director researched and provided current statistics on abused women. Educational and social work professionals were enlisted to review materials utilized in the development of the workshop. Texts were utilized to explain the cycle of violence. Dynamics, myths, and legal issues of abuse were explored. The project enabled the staff members to advocate for and empower women entrapped in abuse. Case studies provided sensitive information on responding to victims of abuse. Teaching methods used allowed staff members to explore the dynamics of abuse.
