A survey of forty-four questions was designed, tested and administered to study and evaluate the impact of spiritual formation would have on women who engage in the process that leads to character development. Moreover, this shows that the development of 'fruit of the spirit' together with practicing the spiritual disciplines is essential in the process of developing Christ-like character. If a church-based women's Bible study program aims to grow strategically, numerically and in biblical depth, it must consider the best way to solve this problem. This thesis-project argues that the alternative to training successful lecturers is to turn to video lecturers who cannot as effectively shepherd the flock, be as accessible as role-models of Christ-like character nor be available to answer questions, both of a biblical and personal nature. The preaching ministry is gifted by Jesus to accomplish three main goals: 1) works of service, 2) unity in the faith, and 3) knowledge of the Son of God (Eph 4:11-13). A biblical model for revival based on 2 Chronicles 7:14 is presented, along with compelling historical illustrations, and a tour of sites associated with revival and awakening in the Housatonic Valley region.  Together they demonstrate that when pastors and churches set themselves to preparing their hearts for renewing, God sends it. The author studied the actual ministry contribution of the women in one agency, the obstacles they face and the needs they have.  Women comprise over half of this organization, yet their contributions to the work of God's kingdom on earth are largely unknown, even within their own agency.  The study discusses a number of factors that play into this invisibility, including women's lack of representation in the leadership structure of the mission. These networks are explored in the typical western approaches to leadership training and in an ethnographic study of a specific tribal group in the central African context: the Azande.
