The study then proceeds to identify similarities between the mission models of the past and those in the church today. The main reason for this appears to be cultural;  a Korean cherishes his honor and tends to keep up appearances. The Korean term for this is che myun. To overcome this cultural barrier, the project leader developed the delayed-response invitation program. He projects this program to be a more effective invitation method for Korean people than the immediate-response invitation. The project involved evangelistic preaching, the project leader made an announcement that a class would start the following week for those interested in learning more about the Christian faith. Those who responded to such an invitation were connected automatically to a four-week teaching program. A theological and hermeneutical case is made for the use of a conversational homiletic and the tested in a congregational setting. Included are sermons based on 'texts' from the arts placed in conversation with biblical texts preached in an urban congregation. Parishioners verified the validity of the project thesis through group and individual discussion and a congregational survey. A pastor's identity informs how a preacher witnesses to the Word of God. Using The Witness of Preaching by Thomas G. Long, I discuss the various images he used to illustrate the roles of preachers: the herald, the paster, the storyteller/poet, and finally, the witness. I have drawn upon my own experiences as a child raised in the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod and how I moved from a  theology based in fear to a theology based in grace. As a secondary discourse I draw on Edwin H. Friedman's A Failure of Nerve: Leadership in the Age of the Quick Fix. From a 'missional church' perspective, this research provides practical, biblical, and theological rationales to seek outsiders'visions of church. It presents findings from 'on-the-street' interviews with un-churched persons. Their images of church were rich, emphasized a communal faith dimension, and confirmed biblical and theological themes.
