This is a comprehensive approach to preparing a sequential series of life-transforming messages covering a book of the Bible in a passage-by-passage manner. It hypothesizes that orchestrating covenant relationships produce a benefit to a small group's relational health by restraining both harmful cultural values and weak human nature that dissuades people from nurturing resilient bonds. To promote the acceptance of covenant-making, a three-step process includes assessment, instruction and training, and implementation for a facilitator to follow based upon exegetical and theological proofs supported by supplemental sociology research. The assessment step was applied to a local church's small group program and evaluated. This project attempts to help Evangelical Baptist Missions (EBM) to begin addressing the challenges that church mission leaders face. Five church missions teams were used to gather data to identify the greatest challenges churches face in missions ministry. These challenges include developing accountability with missionaries, mobilizing and involving the congregation, developing a strategic, proactive approach to missions, qualifying and developing potential missionaries and encouraging financial support. The author designed, implemented and evaluated a thirty-week curriculum. Evaluation instruments included a pretest/post-test format, a ministry confidence survey, focus group questions, and a course topic evaluation. The results of the study prominently indicated that all of the project goals were acheived. The thesis is that contemporary fathers will exhibit behavioral, cognitive and affective change with proper equipping that is lacking in contemporary families and churches. Fathers were given a series of stories written from the author's experience as a pilot. These stories are a prelude to biblical stories to be used with dialogue eliciting questions that invite vulnerability from father and son. This Doctor of Ministry project is entitled 'The design and implementation of a volunteer development course for Broadway Church,' and details the design, presentation and follow-up strategy for its use in a local church. The project examines the history of the church, its current needs for volunteer leadership development, and provides a biblical and historical understanding the 'priesthood of all believers'. As well, it examines some general trends in volunteerism. The development of the lesson material, the teaching of the course to students, and the presentation of the strategic plan to church leadership are the key components to the project. Kingdom identity is one way to transform immigrants to be more representative of the Vancouver multicultural context both within and outside the church. Kingdom identity is also a means of offsetting or balancing a supratribal or pride identity that can be counterproductive to the congregation's overall inreach and outreach. It cannot be assumed that the pastor has completed his development, but further intentional effort must be pursued. This project developed a lesson plan for pastors in a small group setting which defined spiritual development, established three biblical elements of spiritual development and its theological foundation. The author researched the theoretical, sociological, theological, and biblical perspectives of spirituality with application. Also, the author presented diverse exercises to implement for spiritual development and incentives for engaging the process. Following a review of the New Testament emphasis on sound doctrine as related to church planting, and the IMB's current strategy for evangelism and church planting, an eight-hour doctrinal course was developed, implemented and tested over a 16-month period with positive results.
