During a proscribed period of multi-dimensional prayer at Rainbow Community Praise Center of Seventh-Day Adventists, the writer observed an overall increase in leadership effectiveness, member empowerment and church morale. Final conclusions articulated in the last chapter are: (1) multi-dimensional prayer enhances church members in the areas of prayer, leadership, empowerment and morale; (2) the pastor's presence is essential for the effective implementation of multi-dimensional prayer; (3) fast-growing, multi-service churches tend to be Pentecostal and employ multi-dimensional prayer; and (4) Pentecostal/charismatic pastors tend to pray more and thereby experience greater church growth."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132275415449600,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:48.350Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:44:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:56:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"423271d1-c310-453a-8044-b121e7f37669","accessControl_ssim":["02173c0e-8cc7-4f8d-988d-fcf66f974711"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An analysis of the requirement of baptism by immersion for church membership: Middleburg Baptist Church, Middleburg, Virginia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:44:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:03:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["34262dbb-0894-47cb-81f2-a76d64d0043e"],"hasLease_ssim":["e2ca025a-8b78-413f-906b-0545c8208112"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James Nogalski"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Louis I Thigpen"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Baptism--Baptists","Church membership","Middleburg Baptist Church (Middleburg, Va)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project analyzes baptism by immersion as a requirement for church membership at Middleburg Baptist Church. The project utilizes four research methods: survey, interview, pretest and posttest analysis, and a five session study on baptism. Chapter one outlines the project's goals, the methodologies that assess these goals, and the setting for the project. Chapter two contains a biblical and historical overview of the rite of baptism. The third chapter looks at cultural trends and dynamics that affect Middleburg Baptist Church. Chapter four analyzes current baptismal beliefs and practices within the church. Chapter five presents conclusions and evaluations. The project concludes that believer's baptism by immersion best reflects the biblical, historical and theological history of Christian baptism. It also affirms that this practice is not without exceptions. During the service the Holy Spirit moved in a mighty way, empowering the congregation until prayers, singing, and testimonies began in such a way that the preacher could not control them. The fire of the Holy Spirit which started in 'Utui spread within a month to all the islands in the Tonga group. The king and the people were converted, resulting in unity and a new motivation for mission and evangelism. After a year, the momentum of this Tongan Pentecost spread to the other Pacific islands, first to the Fijian and Samoan groups. Although the Tongan people today tend to remember the history of the 1834 Tongan Pentecost, their experience of the Holy Spirit is, by and large, limited and perfunctory, resulting in division and lack of purpose. Therefore, the purpose of this project dissertation is to rediscover how the Tongan Pentecost of 1834 affected the Tongan worldview, establishing a sense of unity and mission, and to see if a fresh encounter with the Holy Spirit can renew that sense of unity and mission today. In this project I examined the history of the 1834 experience. With a questionnaire I discovered that: (1) the experience actually happened; (2) it created unity and purpose; and, (3) the experience could be renewed in an effort to reunite and motivate the Tongan church toward mission and evangelism. The Methodist Church in Tonga has gone through disappointing divisions, resulting in five branches today: the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga, the Free Church of Tonga, the Church of Tonga, the Tokaikolo Church, and the Constitutional Church of Tonga. Since the Tonga Methodist family of churches of the West Coast of the United States of America has experienced the same divisions as the churches in Tonga, I used the Easter Camps I conducted there as case studies. My intent was to test the principle of downward mobility as a means of creating humble spirits (especially among the leaders) and subsequent openness to the power of the Holy Spirit so the Tongan churches can overcome their divisions. The result was positive and conclusive."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134600330739712,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:37:45.562Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:44:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:15:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"03dd7a4f-7869-4cf4-b8db-1caf68125fdf","accessControl_ssim":["d6152ef1-6448-437b-9897-f4d91f39cb6e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The assessment of a self-study course designed to develop mentoring commitment and competency among Australian Baptist church leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:44:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:13:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d6b07a04-f4c1-4a0c-ac45-59c5aa724856"],"hasLease_ssim":["83ab3dd5-5aaf-4392-a503-d708eed43ca6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Craig L Blomberg","Randy MacFarland"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"location_tesim":["Australia"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John R Sweetman"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Mentoring in church work","Baptists"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many present Christian leaders appear to lack a vision for and competency in mentoring potential leaders. The results indicate that the course may be effective in improving the mentoring ability of Christian leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133211788574720,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:15:41.345Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:58Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:51:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"42382333-eb8c-47b7-9019-6a27f0cd9aca","accessControl_ssim":["5bd1de49-4fd1-4dda-b761-36cd9bc92bbb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Community service as a model for church outreach"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:03:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2d8d371d-c120-4b4f-b4f8-340206cd9591"],"hasLease_ssim":["e78060e3-0056-476f-b386-b27ba885832e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["North American Baptist Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["George W Lang"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Frederick C Sweet"],"publisher_tesim":["North American Baptist Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Baptists--Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to demonstrate that local churches involved in community service have greater evangelistic opportunities and impact. 'Servant evangelism' is explored from a biblical perspective and advocated as a model for today's church. Emphasis is given to North American Baptist Conference churches, the author's denomination. The approach taken includes: 1. Surveying 110 NAB churches; 2. Interviewing six pastors (4 NAB and 2 others); 3. Teaching a class on servant evangelism in the author's home church. Class outlines for these ten sessions are included in an appendix. Additional chapters focus on biblical and theological perspectives; teaching and promoting servant evangelism in the church; evaluation and suggestions for further application. Of special value to pastors are the chapters on teaching servant evangelism and servant evangelism as a strategy for today's church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719553826029568,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:51:55.218Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d87801e2-2883-4166-8a71-d9188471f10f","accessControl_ssim":["3d90276d-b112-4ff4-9ffd-d06308399d78"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Church planting in Sweden in the 21st century: a model for new Methodist churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:19:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5b7b704e-9de3-4960-bf37-041b7c54b149"],"hasLease_ssim":["4a011dca-f57f-473e-a985-64f414602505"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ronald K Crandall"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"location_tesim":["Europe","Sweden"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Peter Svanberg"],"keyword_tesim":["Evangelistic work--Theory"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Different churches flourish in different environments. The main question of this study is what church plants will grow and flourish in Swedish soil. The study focuses on the qualities of the suitable plant and not on how to plant it. The spiritual soil and climate in Sweden is different from that in the US. Secularization has gone so far that people have started to talk about the 'theophobia' of the Swedish people. What kind of church plant will be able to reach ordinary, secularized, unchurched Swedes? Through a multiple case study that examines three churches planted between 1992 and 1996, the study tries to answer that question. A comprehensive review of literature provided the framework for the study and aided the author in generating a check-list of eighteen standard church planting principles. The study investigated the extent to which these standard principles were present in the case study churches and to what extent they were manifested in an indigenous way in these churches. The final objective of this study was to develop an indigenous model for new Methodist Churches in Sweden based on the principles discovered in the review of literature, the employment of these principles revealed in the case study, and the historic and contemporary challenge facing Methodism in Sweden. Therefore, the last chapter proposes a model featuring ten important characteristics that should mark new Methodist churches in Sweden which would be capable of reaching unchurched, secular people. These characteristics include: (1) a growth-oriented, Wesleyan theology, (2) inspiring worship, (3) fervent spirituality, (4) visionary leadership, (5) gift based ministry, (6) relational life and witness, (7) authentic Christian living, (8) cell/celebration church structures, (9) cultural relevance, (10) and a seeker-targeting approach."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134667132370944,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:38:49.269Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:14:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"afee7bd7-9abc-497a-ab9b-7fd35285e3ef","accessControl_ssim":["5a44ed8e-8f42-4968-9e5f-aed3d5d750c1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The adult Sunday school: reclaiming a structure for the 21st-century ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:12:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["725347c6-d2ef-4d4b-b740-b1df0ac75462"],"hasLease_ssim":["8fe3a4f3-584b-48cf-9655-e6d1b5866a44"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael B Slaughter","Thomas Tumblin"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert Gordon Stutes"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Sunday schools","Christian education of adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Adult Sunday school: reclaiming a structure for the twenty-first century ministry"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to develop new structures of ministry for the traditional adult Sunday school in light of new insights and paradigms from the meta-church (small group) approach.
