Five steps were taken to begin the transition. A handbook was developed to guide teams. A small group experience was used to expose team leaders to the handbook and model the team concept. A one day workshop was given for team members. A sermon was delivered to the congregation to encourage a positive organizational climate. Some team maintenance activities were employed. It is concerned with questions having to do with the discipline of prayer in the spiritual development of Christians. A primary premise of the work is that greater practice of prayer and a more disciplined prayer life will aid and encourage spiritual growth.  The author suggests that many followers of Jesus Christ are not utilizing the great gift of prayer in their lives. The study attempts to correlate greater participation in prayer and the spiritual development of the one who is praying. Further, there is an attempt to assess at what point the participants believed that there was a 'diminishing return' to their prayer life, i.e., how much time dedicated to prayer is enough each day. Further, there is an attempt to correlate increased activity of prayer and the spiritual revitalization of an entire congregation. The thesis begins with theological reflection on the nature and value of prayer. The work moves on to an historical analysis of the Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, followed by a review of the literature pertinent to the subject. The project design is discussed, and the outcomes of the project are noted. The thesis is introduced  by examining the theological meaning and importance of the doctrines of justification and sanctification as pillar doctrines undergirding any true model of Christian spirituality. A brief history of the theological development of these doctrines is provided, as well as the views that Edwards held on these matters. The first chapter then proceeds to examine Edwards as a man. A brief biographical sketch is provided, followed by an exploration of Edwards as a pastor-theologian. The work then seeks to assess the influence of Edwards upon his contemporaries and the contemporary church. The second chapter looks at Edwards' theology of God's glory as seen in his Dissertation concerning the end for which God created the world. Chapter Three investigates Edwards' theology of Christian spirituality as seen in his Treatise concerning religious affections. The transition is then made to the practical ramifications of the truths of Edwards' theology by the development of an Edwardsean model of Christian spirituality. Many barriers, however, hinder both an effective communication and a proper understanding of the gospel.  The barriers exist both in the cultural back-ground of Western missionaries and the Africans' worldview.  While some missionaries have studied the African worldview, many have not spent enough time learning about their own cultural assumptions.  This project deals specifically with the issues related to the sharing of God's love in Africa.  It deals with the barriers missionaries bring with them as well as those that await on the field.  One basic premise is that the romanticized concept of love missionaries bring is totally different from the utilitarian view of love Africans hold.  Westerners value love for love's sake.  Africans understand and express appreciation in how something or someone has been useful to them. Misunderstanding on this point causes harm in communication and relationships. Twelve lay people (hereafter called 'evangelists') will receive eight weeks of training. In weeks nine through twelve, they will leave during the two morning worship services to go door-to-door to share their faith, since many non-Christian people will be at home during this time. The evangelists will solicit prayer requests, promote Istrouma, and witness, and before the end of the worship service, one spokesperson will report back to the church via a cellular telephone. It is hoped the congregation will catch a vision for evangelism through hearing about the lives of real people live over the public address system. Then, the church will be encouraged to pray for those in need. In week thirteen, the project will be evaluated. Follow-up, not discussed herein, will happen in the days thereafter. This project will help the writer and the evangelists grow in their witnessing ability. Furthermore, the church will gain exposure and credibility in the community, perhaps leading to growth. The terminally ill and dying are privileged to the vision of God.  The research helps us to become more aware of the ways in which God's Mystery is revealed in the final transition of life.  It can also help health care professionals see that the mystic path is a route for radical transformation of the self.  The lived experiences of the terminally ill are untapped resources.  Their stories can help the Church better understand the spiritual dimension of the struggle with suffering, illness, and death and help the Church envision new ways for delivering pastoral care to dying persons.  This study is qualitative in nature, blending Grounded Theory methods, as developed by Glaser and Strauss, and a heuristic method. The strategy design has a theological foundation and is based on certain prominent Christian prayer ministries.  The theological foundation consists of an investigation of the most well-known Scriptural passages related to the topic.  The writings of various Christian authors are also examined, and a sweeping study is made of the place of prayer in the history of the Adventist Church. The dissertation also contains a survey of certain prominent prayer ministries and an investigation of the Adventist Church's prayer ministries is documented. The heart of the dissertation is the design of the evangelistic prayer strategy. The strategy consists of two foci:  a strategy for an Adventist congregation as well as a strategy for the Global Mission project of the Adventist Church. An additional focus is given to prayer for Adventist church leaders.  The strategy for the local church encompasses the following concepts: (1) creating a vision for evangelism, (2) facilitating a spiritual climate in a local church in which the strategy can be functional, (3) instituting an intentional teaching seminar about evangelistic intercessory-prayer for the church, (4) organizing prayer cell groups, (5) designating a prayer-room at the local church, (6) giving a special emphasis for evangelistic prayer during the weekly worship service, and (7) organizing a prayer-team during an evangelistic crusade.  The different parts are implemented in three different distinct phases:  pre-crusade, during the crusade, and post-crusade. The main recommendations for instituting an evangelistic prayer strategy in the Adventist Church include a focus on improving the local church pastors' prayer life and spirituality. Leaders in the highest levels of church administration should also be examples of prayer and should give prayer a constant emphasis.  A recommendation is made for the Prayer Ministries Coordinator to be more visible in the highest levels of church administration. Other recommendations include a need for certain structural adjustments in the Adventist Church in order for intercessory prayer to be more distinctly expressed. The sample consisted of 257 domestic and foreign pastors surveyed anonymously by mail concerning 14 pastoral task areas and five Internet features. Two-thirds had access to the Internet, claiming e-mail and pornography as its greatest advantage and disadvantage, respectively. Survey results also revealed a surprising lack of discrepancy in generations of Internet users. Preferred web sites, time and tasks online, and Internet education comprised other topics analyzed.
