They equate it with the heavy-handed or manipulative tactics of evangelical or fundamentalist Christians whose only goal is to convert others to the Christian faith to avoid hell. Given the prevalence of church trauma and spiritual abuse many have personally and vicariously experienced, theologically progressive college ministries struggle to understand how to faithfully do evangelism.
