This grief was experienced after leaving home in their host country from the loss produced by the unavailability of attachments that anchored their lives. The primary focus of the study was to determine whether or not there were correlations between attachment to God, resilience, and grief. The author's thesis is that if siblings are taught to respond to a disturbed brother/sister through boundary maintenance, differentiation of self, balanced roles/power, and empathy, then understanding of sibling relationships will improve. This project integrated a biblical theology of brother/sister relationships with four family systems change constructs. A literature review critiqued systems theory and suggested that these constructs are compatible with scripture. Eight families participated in six therapy sessions from November 2004 through January 2006. Each family had one child between the ages of 10 to 18 with a DSM IV diagnosis. A pre-test/post-test research design utilizing the Brother-Sister Questionnaire (BSQ) measured the four family systems change constructs. Data from the Marginal Homogeneity Exact Test indicated that statistically significant change did occur among participating siblings, but no measurable change occurred among disturbed siblings or siblings' parents. An explanation of possible reasons for this is offered; however, data findings did support the author's hypothesis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133313464795136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:17:18.311Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:37:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:49:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"27d9b642-f60d-4297-8cef-6575f0144d6a","accessControl_ssim":["de39cf48-79d6-4f08-875b-65dcb903907d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Building positive images in African males through the Sunday school from a black perspective"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:37:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:18:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3f702ce5-f10a-4eb6-a2c6-f9ff14d3d17c"],"hasLease_ssim":["7b5aa703-d0f1-4b8b-9a4f-210e475acf1c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Samuel D Proctor","Otis Moss"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael Ross"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Sunday schools","African American children","Self-esteem","Child psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to build positive images in the mind of African American males whose image is often negative as portrayed by the media in occupation and in the culture. The hypothesis of the research project was that if a church offers a biblically balanced and sound course of training for its parents who have preadolescent children, there will be an observable increase in the self-esteem scores of the children whose parents undergo training. The author conducted pre-test and post-test measurements of the self-esteem of preadolescednts whose parents were trained.
