After developing a biblical theological framework for understanding normative patterns of discipleship in the Scriptures, the study reports on findings from semi-structured interviews with thirty participants recommended by their pastors and peers for their outstanding faith. All participants were forty years of age or younger, most of them were lifelong church members, and all were actively involved with large evangelical churches in the suburban South. Their spiritual formation involves church participation, but their self-reported focus centers on small, close-knit friendship groups, high engagement with Scripture and prayer, and caring for one another through suffering and sacrifice. The study concludes by inviting ministry leaders to consider how facilitating the growth of strong friendships might serve as a primary ministry strategy for discipleship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1854868180123516928,"timestamp":"2026-01-20T20:15:43.703Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-01-20T20:07:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-01-20T20:07:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5096671c-abc6-4eae-a8bd-21500a56858d","accessControl_ssim":["5d99dbe8-2181-49c7-8269-b8ac552a74d5"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Impact of Missional Community Adopts a Holistic Approach of \"Body-Mind-Spirit-Communal Relationship\" as a Strategy to Help Addicts Recover, Transform into Christlikeness, and Integrate into the Christian Community and Church Life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-01-20T20:07:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-01-20T20:07:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["10f7b925-5481-44ba-9b5f-a6ce0aa8c8a6"],"hasLease_ssim":["a683ccda-f983-439a-92c8-143a5e604661"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This study investigates the potential of a community-based, integrative approach—specifically missional communities (MCs) adopting a holistic body-mind-spirit-communal relationship (BMSC) framework—to\r\nsupport sustainable recovery. Drawing on twenty years of experience in addiction treatment, the researcher examines how MCs facilitate transformation across multiple stages of recovery, helping individuals once deemed incurable develop a renewed identity as disciples of Jesus and\r\nintegrate into Christian communities and church life. The study addresses why many recovering individuals struggle to permanently abandon prior\r\naddictive behaviors, and explores the spiritual, communal, and psychosocial mechanisms that support lasting change. Guided by mixed-methods research, including qualitative interviews and quantitative measures, the study evaluates the impact of BMSC-based MCs on participants’ holistic recovery, participation in Christian communities and church, relationship with God, and commitment to discipleship. This is no longer the case. Young people today are being conformed to the pattern of the late-modern world as soon as they leave the catechetical classroom.\r\n\r\nThis major project developed a vision for embodied and embedded discipleship that sought to spark the imagination of young people to see the beauty, truth, and goodness of the kingdom of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. This project created a formational context where the theo-drama of God’s redemptive story in the Scriptures was enacted by particular people in a particular place. By using a hands-on learning approach as a case study, this research combined biblical instruction with the practices of tending a garden so that doctrinal truths were demonstrated and the glorious realities of the kingdom of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ were vividly known.\r\n\r\nThis case study examined the unique experiences of six teachers at New Life Evangelical Free Church in Hastings, Minnesota, as they implemented a garden discipleship curriculum. This project sought to learn how to equip disciple-makers, how to design curriculum that integrates propositional truth with hands-on learning techniques, and how to identify evidence of a transforming social imaginary. Results showed that teacher collaboration was critical, that curriculum must carefully connect theological elements with hands-on learning activities, and that creation care proved to be an effective tool for engaging young people in catechetical instruction.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1830681458844368896,"timestamp":"2025-04-28T20:58:08.821Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-28T20:49:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-02T19:46:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"76e5cc26-a1a8-4015-a365-b2c4c6b1b999","accessControl_ssim":["a5add7f6-0c1e-405b-a8b8-2679cdb953d3"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Utilizing the Ministry of Deliverance and Biblical Counseling as Effective Discipleship Strategies in Fulfilling the Great Commission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-28T20:49:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-02T19:46:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["49cb1e97-1f21-449f-9a05-5924a93aa198"],"hasLease_ssim":["e9c08662-f7bc-42f9-8590-3c9a784977f9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This had never happened before in the church’s history, and it all began during a recent sermon series in the book of Acts. Deliverance has since become an expected phenomenon that the church leadership prepares for every week now. This Doctor of Ministry project sought to examine how to effectively bring together the ministry of deliverance along with the ministry of Biblical Counseling (intensive discipleship) to help those who have been set free maintain their freedom and live the Spirit-filled life. This involved a three-step process: (1) An initial interview to determine the direction of the intervention, (2) three fifty-minute biblical counseling sessions over a period of twenty-one days during which relevant action items were assigned, and (3) a final interview to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. Qualitative research was done through analyzing the final interview data. Some\r\nmajor findings within the twenty-one day period included that an exceeding majority of participants (90%) experienced freedom from bondage to struggles related to former demonic strongholds prior to their deliverance, and following through on action items (especially in actively forgiving others) had a strong correlation with a sense of overall spiritual growth. The research was conclusive that this twenty-one day process is a feasible and effective program for\r\nthose delivered from demonic strongholds, to jumpstart them into a larger discipleship process. It can be logically deduced that it should also be applicable to ministering to anyone who may be caught in the throes of battling the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil (cf. Ephesians 2:1-3). Because this was a qualitative study, the findings cannot be generalized.\r\nFurther studies in different contexts are recommended to help determine transferability."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1831039331023716352,"timestamp":"2025-05-02T19:46:22.326Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-22T18:30:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-23T13:45:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a40745f5-e579-4bb8-b90f-01818f5c1a51","accessControl_ssim":["95dac829-62f2-4a7b-94fc-8cf610d558c8"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Tipping Point Towards Christ’s Mission Through the Local Church: Leadership Towards a Lay Missional Disciple Making Culture"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-22T18:30:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-23T13:45:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4bddac11-ca8c-4a35-b6df-4deca3558c72"],"hasLease_ssim":["2ad50c23-8d0b-4847-a405-48d672158983"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This project researches and addresses the problem that less than five percent of churches in the United States have a lay disciple making culture. The hypothesis is that a healthy church will have a minimum of thirty percent of its laity actively involved in life-on-life relational disciple making that creates a tipping point in the culture of the church. Key to this study is the idea that Jesus Christ and his method should take priority. For this reason, the title is Christ´s mission through the local church versus the church´s mission about Christ. The research investigates the biblical and theological background to missional disciple making. Literature was investigated regarding missional ecclesiology, sociological findings in connection with disciple making environments, and disciple making training methods. Three case studies of missional disciple making churches were researched. The research investigated questions of training, obstacles, structure, systems, culture, pastoral priorities and vision for lay missional disciple making in the local church. \r\n\r\nThe findings suggest that the local church can achieve the vital work of winning, building, equipping, multiplying and empowering laity to do the Great Commission. To achieve this ministry there must be clear definitions, processes, tracking, metrics, and simple reproducible methods. Significant shifts must take place in many churches to engage, train, and empower laity. When a disciple making culture is achieved there is an unlocking of ministry potential through the local church. When this happens the ministry leaders work can shift allowing for a change from ministry that is mainly seeing addition to multiplication on to movements of ministry. \r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1830201268339998720,"timestamp":"2025-04-23T13:45:43.470Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-01-22T16:53:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-22T16:53:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b6c866dd-f28d-4fc3-aa73-6921d67ab2d8","accessControl_ssim":["df362637-fc5a-4685-806f-1fe4b4149097"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Cultivating Spiritual Growth in Generational Cohorts Through Understanding How Media and Technology Affect Spiritual Disciples"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-01-22T16:53:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-22T16:53:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d7e8adf5-8938-47bb-b5d1-bfd3b4f978fc"],"hasLease_ssim":["c1c8035c-a33b-4da1-85eb-a58c9b67c877"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University "],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Therefore believers are affected in both positive and negative ways in their spiritual formation through the consumption of media. Spiritual formation is seen through the narrow lens of spiritual disciplines. There is a focus on how people at Bethany Church can use spiritual discipline apps to grow spiritually recognizing that neuroplasticity allows for real change in a person. The use of media and spiritual disciplines are explored through surveys and interviews to see how they interact with each other in the lives of believers. Spiritual disciplines are examined from a historical, theological, and biblical perspective. A class was developed to teach each participant about spiritual disciplines. Scientific and generational research is examined in order to understand the dangers and benefits to the consumption of media. Key conclusions of this major project include: the participants did not see a connection between their spiritual formation and their leisure time until it was pointed out to them. Meaning that the idea that their consumption of media might hinder their spiritual formation was a foreign concept. Another key conclusion is that media can and should be used to help people grow in\r\ntheir faith. In this way media can be a positive tool in spiritual formation. It is transitioning out of the pandemic, wrestling with its apologetic and ministry response to a post-Christendom America amid a gentrifying community and in the nascent stages of pastoral change. Despite having existed since 1932 with a membership of 10,000 people, it is a Baby Boomer church looking to sustain and scale its reach. The church is a gospel-centered, grace-grounded ἐκκλησία with a legacy of evangelism and community advocacy. To continue its legacy, however, it must adjust its approach to discipleship by embracing a missional communities’ strategy that facilitates biblical literacy, relationship building, volunteerism, and gospel proclamation. These four elements of the missional communities’ model are derived from the practices of the Jerusalem church in Acts 2:42–47. Though not prescriptive, they offer a biblical framework for building the church’s communal life. The missional communities’ model is a repurposing of what worked when the church found itself on the margins of Judea’s religious and social life; the church grew stronger in the Scriptures, in κοινωνία, in mighty deeds, and in winning souls. This study offers promising data that focusing on these four areas of discipleship can lead to similar results as the early church. Those who participate improve their ability to understand and explain Scripture, develop genuine relationships with their fellow parishioners, volunteer at church and in their communities, and increase their confidence and ability to share their faith. Quantitative questionnaires, qualitative interviews, field observations, and researcher-generated documents validate the research. This triangulation of the data provides dependability to the researcher's findings and conclusions. The Apostolic Church of God has tested and proven the potential of the missional communities’ strategy. It is now positioned to duplicate this framework in its internal ministries and the zip codes where its members live."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1821833243364687872,"timestamp":"2025-01-21T04:59:32.972Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
