The interactive research process led to a mentoring event for young men conducted by emerging Ahtna leaders. Drawing on studies of national church-mission relations, case studies of attempts at transition, and the perceptions of African church leaders and missionaries, the project finds that abrupt transition that does not involve a preparatory dialogue between national church and mission is likely to be more hurtful than helpful. The author traces the historical, cultural, and other significant factors that have influenced Filipino men and their leadership development.  He also points out practices in the Roman Catholic religion and in the Protestant mission groups that have contributed to the lack of Filipino male leaders in the Philippine Christian church. The author then proceeds to take a fresh look at what the Scripture says about evangelism and church growth.  He then attempts to apply these qualities in the Philippine cultural context.
