The Control group will be involved in a ten week sermon series covering the ten traits found in the book. The Experimental group will attend the same sermon series, but additionally attend small group studies on the same ten traits, as well as be required to read the Book Becoming a Healthy Disciple. After defining church health, the author identifies a revival model from the Great Awakenings. These are compared with the Sonlife/Growing a Healthy Church model of Dann Spader, the Purpose-Driven model of Rick Warren, the Natural Church Development model of Christian Schwarz, and the Becoming a Healthy Church model of Stephen Macchia. One way is by becoming more focused and intentional in ministry through establishing and implementing a mission statement. Through a series of Bible studies, we developed a mission statement and established goals and strategies for its implementation. Our progress was measured using Stephen A. Maccia's Becoming a healthy church: 10 characteristics. Initial results, while not cataclysmic and overwhelming, indicate some promising signs of revitalization.
