growth in the Apostolic Church.' The researcher developed and taught a redemptive discipleship class as a tool for reducing legalistic tendencies. Students took a pretest and posttest survey. The pretest survey results confirmed the existence of legalistic tendencies. Given the limited time for the class the researcher decided that a reduction in legalistic tendencies of ten percent will be considered meaningful. The goal is to provide a theological and practical curriculum to help current or future Pentecostal ministers prepare expository sermons. This project will argue that there are three components to preparing an effective expository sermon. These components are the preacher, the audience, and the message. Pentecostal preachers need to look at each of these components in order to prepare an effective expository sermon. This Pentecostal church is primarily composed of immigrants mostly from Africa and the Caribbean Islands. After struggling to establish a small group ministry, the congregation and leaddership were consulted through conversations, interviews and surveys resulting in a more flexible, focused, and situation-sensitive model. The purpose of this small group ministry is to build a community of disciples nurtured by Bible study and prayer, connected with the church through their leaders, who minister to the needs of those within and beyond the group. Historic Christian traditions have been co-opted into Pentecostal Eucharist traditions for 100 years; because Pentecostalism is burgeoning all over the planet, now is the time for such a theological contribution. This thesis builds upon the work of Simon Chan by affirming and critiquing evangelicalism's theological superimposition on Pentecostalism as it pertains to eucharistic theology. Chan's model is used to suggest how Pentecostals can construct eucharistic theology germane to their context and congruent with their broader theological claims. Further, it examines epiclesis as an aspect of eucharistic theology and notes its natural intersection with Pentecostal theology as the inroad to an expanded theological dialogue. The thesis discusses the implications of an American Pentecostal eucharistic theology in light of the poor. This project considers the indebtedness of Pentecostals to sacramentalists and Evangelicals who contributed to the doctrine of a Spirit baptism subsequent to regeneration. The scriptures which relate speaking in tongues are discussed from a Pentecostal perspective, although alternative interpretations are explored.
