Many of existing church programs for older adults are no longer adequate or relevant for our graying congregations; consequently, there has been a growing need for a new model of senior adult ministry that can meet the diverse needs and expectations of older adults in an aged society. Inspired by the Rev. Dr. Gentzler's 'intentional ministry by, with, and for older adults,' and based on A. Maslow's theory of Hierarchy of Needs, the present paper has suggested a model of senior adult ministry shaped with the following three dimensions: ministry that provides a sense of belonging (community-oriented ministry), ministry that promotes a sense of usefulness (mission-and-service-oriented ministry), ministry that guides discovery of meaning and purpose (spirituality-oriented ministry). By applying this model of senior adult ministry, the present study has designed and implemented a project for boosting the integration of senior newcomers to the life of Korean Church of Atlanta UMC. As the new pastor of Korean Methodist Church of Queens, which had been on traditional soil for 33 years, the author deeply [was] concerned about what it takes to be a healthy church. So to accomplish this purpose, the author designed two programs : 'Banaba training' and 'Incarnational leader training.' The author spoke with six United Methodist Church planters to learn about the ways they experienced fruitfulness in ministry even as their projects were not deemed successful. It begins with an overview of the history of preaching in The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS), especially since the move into English in the 1920s. This history traces how the LCMS has largely adopted the New Homiletic, but has not reflected critically on how its own theological hermeneutic integrates with the New Homiletic, and what relationship this may have to sacramental preaching.Beginning with definitions of a dialectic imagination and a sacramental/ analogical imagination from David Tracy and Mary Catherine Hilkert, it examines the roots of the sacramental imagination in the works of Edward Schillebeeckx, particularly his early book, Christ the Sacrament of the Encounter with God. It then compares this with the writings of Richard Eslinger, Hans Boersma, and Graham Hughes.Next the thesis attempts to reconcile a sacramental imagination with a Lutheran hermeneutic. The most successful attempt for this has been in the writing and work of Lutheran Gordon Lathrop. While there are some concerns regarding a dialectic counterbalance, a Lutheran sacramental imagination that takes both the distinction of Law and Gospel and the place of grace begins to emerge.The ministerial intervention was a seminar for a group of pastors from the LCMS. It involved questionnaires, sermons, and interviews both before and after the seminar. Based on evidence that catechists lack formation in best practices of preaching, the researcher designed and implemented an educational initiative in a multi-site, multi-participant intensive formation program. The researcher used a homiletic grounded in the Paschal Mystery, which located God’s gratuitous and gracious actions on humanity’s behalf as the focus of preaching—giving gospel-power—to any form of preaching carried out during the study.Within a unique form of pastoral ministry called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), employing a qualitative methodology, a constructivist epistemology, and a field-based action research design, the researcher effectively utilized various educational approaches to develop and assess participant competence in preaching using a comprehensive assessment program, and iteratively improving their learning and teaching preaching praxis using program evaluation tools. The research shows that the curriculum successfully demonstrated that the comprehensive preaching model, which integrated five best practices of preaching for proclaiming the Word with children into the study’s conceptual framework, worked to develop the competence of catechists as preachers of the Good News. Psychologically, they are considered `middle-aged.' In this paper, the author implemented a pastoral care program for middle-aged women in their forties and fifties under these circumstances to find out if the program helps them achieve spiritual maturity and restore their clear life direction and identity. The author conducted an eight-week small group pastoral care program entitled 'Healing Mom- A Mother Becomes a Woman' for middle-aged women in their forties and fifties in his church. The author proceeded the project as follows. The groundwork of the preparation of an educational program for the aged Christians and the methods of this paper were described in Introduction. In chapter 1, the author explained roughly the concept and history of Christians worldview. In chapter 2, the author explored the definition of 'aging' from social, biological, and psychological aspects while describing the existing issues of senescent life. The author tried to seek the potential meanings of 'aging' from a Christian perspective based on the Bible. Paul Stevens' understating of aging, Erikson's theory of development stage, John Westerhoff's theory of education, and Christian worldview rooted in Reformed theology were theoretical grounds used for the educational program of the aged Christians. Specially, four factors of Christians worldview - creation, fall, redemption, and consummation - became the main stages of the suggested educational program, 'Senior Worldview Training Retreat.' When he studied the model of indigenous church, he found three Self Principle such as Self-Supporting, Self-Governing, and Self-Propagating for the healthy indigenous church and several attempts in the mission history of the church. In part two, the author researched how to build the healthy indigenous church with three self-principle through 15 churches of SMC for 3 months, in a practical manner. For that, firstly, he provided a consultation with 15 pastors of SMC church and a reporting back to their churches. Secondly, he created a seminar that challenged 15 participants to evaluate their ministries with three self-principle and sought solutions by them. Thirdly, he provided two workshops for feedback, ministry and finance evaluation for the healthy indigenous church with three self-principle. The author prioritizes marriage counseling in her work as a military Chaplain, more so than she did while pastoring in the local church. This study examines contributing factors within military culture that lead to dissolution of marriages and examines possible remedies to the problem. The project proposes a role for the Chaplain as a care leader to help military service members build healthier marriages.
