It seeks to answer the question: 'Looking at the hostage crisis, what lessons are there to be learned by the mission in managing such a crisis?' The project makes use of relevant literature, materials related to the crisis, and interviews with involved personnel to answer this question. The case study uses questionnaires to study the involvement of new Southern Baptist congregations, nine area Southern Baptist associations, the FNorth American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Billy Graham Association. The church planting project was successful with forty-nine of the fifty-one churches planted surviving. Though each sponsoring church handled their relationship with their new church plant differently, each gave financially to support the new church. This project is a modified content analysis of literature used by the Southern Baptist Convention. Questions about the literature were asked in order to gauge the strengths, weaknesses and common themes. The answers provided data that was beneficial in determining how the denomination trains churches in sponsoring new work. As a result seventeen principles were identified. The twelve churches in Bogota started from a Bible study of ten people and use the name Aposento Alto, which means Upper Room. Biblical study and literature survey identified the nature, development, and practice of spiritual authority in Asia. Empirical study utilized leadership Emergence Theory (Clinton) to interpret qualitative ethnographic data and quantitative questionnaire data from researcher developed assessment tools. Three findings emerged: spiritual authority has both universal aspects and culturally distinct expressions; identity formation is central in spiritual authority development; and instructor 'fathering' of students had life changing impact. Chapter two examines the theological, biblical, and sociological foundations for a disciplemaking church. It proposes a twenty-four month plan for an intentional, sequential strategy at Calvary Baptist. Chapter three discusses the six seminars our T-NET team attended at Trinity International University. The appendices include some of the substantial homework completed. Double binds occur when one is internally conflicted and not able to turn any direction without negative consequences.  For episcope' one double bind is absence of a shared authority.  Another is the presence of a divided constituency.  The third is the absence of a sense of God or the holy purpose for the work.
