Strewn along the roads of change are companies whose engines were unable to deliver the power necessary to continue. As we look more closely among the many disabled vehicles, we also notice a number of church buses. The road of change has proven to be a strain for their vehicles as well. The project participant will study sixteen Old Testament names of God in the context of Scripture and will learn how God was revealing an aspect of his character in each name.  The study will define praise and its significant role in prayer and worship.  The learner will be led through this course of study to use the Old Testament names of God as a guide in offering prayers of praise to enhance personal and corporate worship.  The long-term goal of this project is to encourage people to pray and worship more frequently, more knowledgeably, more meaningfully, and more effectively, understanding the significance and content of biblical praise. A narrative sermon is a biblical message employing the use of story and plot to inductively communicate the author's main thought of--ordinarily--a biblical narrative. This project accomplishes this by identifying a theology of preaching, by defining the narrative sermon, by critiquing homiletical books on Acts, by showing how to write a narrative sermon, and by preaching Acts 13-28 to a local church. New Beginnings is a new paradigm for ministry with Black youth. It is a non-traditional church organized around three primary aspects related to Black youth: language, life issues, and liturgy. The church intentionally speaks the language of Black youth, deals honestly with their life issues (poverty, addictions, sexuality), all within the context of a youth-centered liturgy. The course was developed from an action-research model drawn from personal reading, study and pragmatic homiletic assumptions found most helpful from the author's experience as a bi-vocational and career minister and employs the works of several homileticians to enhance the understanding of the preaching task.  The dissertation addresses a project/prototype of the course, which was produced in print and electronic (CD-ROM) formats to accommodate classroom or home study. The focus of preaching is to relate people to God. When the focus of the church is on the spiritual growth of the people, the church will move towards wholeness in Christ.  A typology of four spiritual types--rationalist, heart, mystic and kingdom builder--guided the preaching.  Sermons were focused on reaching each spiritual type.  Individuals of that spiritual type evaluated the sermons.
