Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bemnet Atraga Melaku"],"keyword_tesim":["Eastern Churches (Chalcedonian)"],"subject_tesim":["Faith","Worship","Ministry","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation explores the practical pastoral challenges of the Ethiopian Catholic Ge'ez Rite diaspora community in North America, with a particular focus on the difficulty of accommodating the time-intensive celebration of the full form of the Ge’ez Sunday Divine Liturgy to sociocultural and economic pressures that often fill Sunday schedules with paid labor and community activities. After considering the lifestyle of this Diaspora Catholic community and consulting with community members themselves, this thesis proposes that there is a pastoral need for a more feasible (i.e., systematically and strategically abbreviated) celebration of the Divine Liturgy so that it can continue to be a liturgy celebrated with traditional integrity for the glorification of God and for the sanctification of humanity through active liturgical participation of the baptized. Through field research undertaken both in North America and Ethiopia that included ritual observation, liturgical participation, interviews, and surveys, this study examined various strategies previously used unofficially by different Ge'ez Rite Catholic communities to address some of these pastoral challenges. I utilized the preaching skills enhancement model, andthe sermon series focused on soteriology from the Apostle Paul’s Epistle to theGalatians. The Apostle Paul makes it clear in Galatians that believers must be aware oftheir beliefs so as not to be easily misled by false doctrine. The same concern will bepresented in this project addressing the biblical understanding of salvation at FBCGreensboro and the need for understanding salvation so as not to be easily misled,manipulated, or misinformed on the doctrine.The project developed through diligent research into doctrinal preaching bestpractices and the doctrine of soteriology as found in Galatians. To ensure validity of theproject, a doctrinal sermon expert evaluated the doctrinal sermon form and deliveryeffectiveness, and doctrinal content was evaluated by an expert theologian. Thecongregation provided feedback for each sermon as well. As a member of Western society, the CTU library carries a legacy of colonial thought which has shaped the existing library collection and influences the knowledge produced by library users. This ethnographic study of five, White lay leaders in a rural United Methodist Church uses the relational tools of community organizing to invite them into authentic self-critical reflection, and this study observes the impact on the lay leaders and the congregation. Through researching and developing a curriculum for use in correctional settings and through reflection on scripture, theological works, and the conversations and creative writing developed during the project, this study examines the church’s role in trauma healing. The findings of this study suggest that churches interested in robust engagement with traumatized populations are served well by exploring their own theology of parenthood, resilience, forgiveness, and most importantly, resurrection. With the percentage of Americans claiming no religious identity increasing from 15.0% in 2008 to 19.3% in 2012, there is a decline in ecclesiastical engagement amongst young adults, particularly Generation Z. SVUP’s ongoing increase in young adults amongst its membership sets the congregation apart. This project uncovers the role intergenerational Christian fellowship plays in young adults' ongoing faith development.
