In the course of this christianization, the Nigerians were westernized. Subsequently, Christianity is regarded as a foreign religion, hence with the present increasing development of theological thinking and understanding, the idea of indigenizing the Christian liturgy dominates the agenda of most Christians. The colonization of the frontier of night as well as the feelings of 'street people' toward themselves and others in this environment are explored.  The amelioration of the hardships faced by those who live on skid road is a long term endeavor that calls for a great deal of love. The works of Calvin and Knox are probed and particular attention is paid to their ideas of ministry and social thought to discover how Scripture calls persons to a ministry such as Nightwatch.  A brief and revealing history of the Operation Nightwatch program in Seattle, Washington and the personal experiences of the author as one 'acquainted with the night' are followed by an evaluation of this program as seen by those who have been or are currently involved as staff persons in Operation Nightwatch. Information gathered was used to develop a workshop manual in the areas of time management, pastoral counseling and educational opportunities. Adams probes the cognitive, affective and behavioral components of church decision making by examining the biblical and doctrinal approach of the UPC, interviewing pastor nominating committees which selected ministers during the period, and questioning all the heads of staff themselves to compile a profile of the persons who were chosen. An initial chapter examines the historical and cultural context of Boston and New England.  The invitation process and the complex organization of the crusade is detailed.  The effect of the crusade is measured by close analysis of questionnaires returned from ministers and lay leaders of churches who participated.  Returned questionnaires from inquirers reveal the motivations for attending and responding to the evangelist's invitation. To better understand the interaction between churches, synagogues and the aging network, data were gathered from clergy and elderly in one community.  Of 48 churches, 34 (71 percent) clergy responded to face-to-face interviews.  16 Of 18 social service agencies also agreed to be interviewed. Of the many kinds of programs provided to the elderly by churches, visitation is the most common: all 34 visited congregants in hospitals and all but 2 of 34, when homebound.  Among social service agencies 6 of 16 provide direct visitation, meals or other services to the homebound. While concern for the homebound in this community is clear, even though a local coordinating counseling exists to coordinate services, we found no coordination of services between the churches and the agencies.
