The primary purpose of the project is to lead participants of the study group to become more faithful pastoral care-givers in the church and in the community. A secondary purpose is to enhance the project leader's ability to communicate the ministry of care-giving in a way that helps Christians see the benefits of faithful care-giving in their lives, families, churches, and communities. The objective of the project will be accomplished through a nine-week study group. The study group will concentrate on three major areas of study. Eight teachers will participate in this project. The project leader will conduct an initial meeting with them to introduce the project idea followed by an eight-week seminar on interactive teaching, which will be videotaped. The seminar will focus on learner-centered interactive teaching-learning methods based on Jesus' teaching style as described in the four Gospels. Two of each teacher's Sunday school teaching sessions will be videotaped, one before the seminar begins and one towards the end of the seminar, and will be evaluated. Finally, the teachers will meet as a group with the project leader and share what they have learned through the process of the project. A leadership group will be enlisted and is to be comprised of fifteen persons: the five-member vocational staff of Morningview Baptist Church and two key lay leaders enlisted by each staff member from his/her field of ministry. The group will focus on the life and mission of Jesus in the gospels in order to determine the mission of the church. Careful study will then be given to the role of leadership in accomplishing that mission with the model of servant-leader given primary emphasis. The project will begin with an overview and pretest before focusing on Jesus' mission through his life and teaching. Assignments will be given from the scripture as well as supplemental sources. The primary purpose of the project is to reveal to church leadership the necessity of dealing with conflict in a biblical manner. The ultimate goal is to lead the focus group to develop a strategy for healing relationships in times of conflict, and then to create a desire within the church to adopt that strategy. All the material within the project is designed to approach the positive side of conflict. The sermons focus on the biblical material while the small group sessions deal with both biblical and secular materials.
