The project was implemented with fourteen current and future leaders of Calvary Baptist Church. The project director did biblical research on the missional commands of Christ and general research on the missional mindset. Lesson plans were formulated and project participants were led through seven equipping sessions. Evaluation of participants' progress toward the missional mindset goal was measured with a pretest and posttest assessment instrument and a report time held eight days after the equipping session during an evening worship service at Calvary Baptist Church. We lift Christ as our focus in this struggle and journey, but how do we see him?  When we think of the church, we think of an institution that serves the needs of the members. I am submitting the thought that we should be placing our faith at risk by making ourselves vulnerable to the needs of others. In my project, I have wrestled with who Christ is to me and to the church. This Christology is the focal point of my work. As I engaged and continue to engage in the struggle for the soul of the church, this project represents my work on this effort.  Revising my view of Christ is central to this work. Within this scope, three areas are studied from the angle of biblical interpretation.  First, theology: this part discusses important teachings of Jesus regarding the truth and the clarification of theological concepts.  Second, scriptural annotation: this part discusses three contextual dimensions: Scripture, the key people (Jesus, the disciples, etc.), and the historical background, as well as the interaction between the three dimensions. What we truly think shapes our decisions and our behavior.  Over the last two decades, cognitive scientists have developed a strong body of research to argue that whenever we think about abstract concepts, such as Spiritual growth, we use metaphors to think with.  And while metaphors enable us to think about abstractions; they also shape our thinking about those abstractions. Evangelical preachers, by and large, give their listeners performance-based metaphors for thinking about their interactions with God.  Sermon applications typically emphasize 'steps to attain X'--where 'X' is the goal for that particular sermon. This activates a ladder or staircase metaphor in their listeners' thinking--a metaphor that emphasizes effort.
