As a result, the Black church, in many cases, has become irrelevant on social issues that affect the communities where they are located. I used 5 point Likert scale questionnaires to glean information from 29 participants: 10 pastors and 19 ministers, to determine what ministers and pastors believed about training for prophets. Pastors and ministers strongly agreed that education and training for people with the gift of prophecy are important. Pastors agreed that they would likely recommend training and ministers agreed that they would attend a program for training. Its research developed a definition for prophetic preaching by exploring the writings of the biblical prophets. It also studied the psychological, ecclesial, and cultural factors that encourage or discourage such preaching for today's priest. Through surveys and focus group sessions, the experience of today's Church with prophetic preaching was explored. At times their role is not clearly defined. As a result some care groups function like a social group without spiritual direction. This research project addresses the training needs of care group leaders by developing a training program that attends to the main functions of a care group leader. The threefold office of Christ as prophet, priest, and king is used as a model to guide the development of the training program. She engaged the leadership in a six-month Bible study designed to engage the Old Testament prophets as a foundation for the work of prophets today. The author of this work was pastor of an urban church, the majority of whose members did not live in the community. The church's urban neighbors, local public housing residents, partnered with the church and other faith leaders to defend their rights as they were being pushed aside for the redevelopment of the city's public housing units. Olivet Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio, explored the misunderstanding of hospitality where benevolence is seen as hospitality. Descriptive research methodology included a pre-test to assess current understanding of hospitality, cognitive interviews, questionnaires, and observation. Treatment included a sermon/workshop series re: biblical hospitality in postmodern culture. A post-test was administered which showed significant shift in the attitude of those who were in the core group.
