Corporate services of penitence and reconciliation lead these converts to reconciliation with new neighbors, despite a climate of racial hatred and violence in America. This project proposes that the church has to become a reconciler in the context of continued struggles and conflicts, recovering leadership in the community by showing a new image of the church that is pursuing reconciliation.  The project reflects on the past and present of Korean immigrant churches in southern California and discusses the need to change their role in the future. The first part of the project was an examination of the meaning of reconciliation followed by a study of the meaning of the sacrament of Holy Communion in relation to reconciliation.  The second part was a fourteen session study with leaders of a Presbyerian congregation.  The group planned three communion services for corporate worship and surveyed the congregation following the services. Reconciliation is a central biblical/theological motif, providing a relational conceptualization of the work of Christ and describing God's intervention into the human situation to overcome enmity and restructure actual relationships of persons to God, themselves and one another.  The church's ministry is one of announcing and demonstrating God's reconciling work in Christ, and of participating in the restructuring of human community in its own life and in ministries in the world. Pastoral ministry is an office of accountable public leadership involving three main responsiblities: labor in Word and doctrine, facilitation of the faith-development of the members, and leadership of the ministries of the church.
