The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of brain injury on one's church attendance and involvement and to investigate how the church can minister to this growing population. Individual interviews were conducted with eighteen brian injury survivors that represented a demographic cross-section of the brain injury population. The study revealed that only 28% of participants had returned to active participation with their church post-injury. The participants were religiously diverse, including some unaffiliated with either a church or synagogue. Using a questionnaire, residents were interviewed regarding their sources of hope and comfort, religious participation, spiritual practices, psychological age and fear of death. A study experience is conducted in two churches served by the author.  The study included both an introduction to feminist theology and ministry as well as an evaluation of the author's ministry in relation to these perspectives.  Also, thirty churches were surveyed, fifteen served by clergywomen, fifteen served by clergymen. An attempt is made to determine whether lay people's perception of ministry changes after experiencing a woman as pastor. Data gathered from 28 participants by an original questionnaire was analyzed in order to determine: if the group had a positive effect; which of Clebsch and Jaekle's four functions of pastoral care was most in effect; what variables (classifying and Pruyser's seven diagnostic) were most related to positive effect; and what program resources were reported as having the most positive effect.
