The author used the Likert System to complete his analysis.  He gathered statistical performance data on 144 selected churches in four measurable areas: profession of faith, Sunday school attendance, worship attendance and financial support.  Pastors and church members completed a survey designed to measure leadership.  The author tabulated data and performed a statistical analysis.  The findings supported the hypothesis.  The closer a church moves toward the participative style of leadership the greater will be its measurable growth.  The study also revealed that the area of financial support was most effected by leadership style and profession of faith was least effected. The research is informed by a critical review of adult development theories and by theological images appropriate to middle adulthood.  The method includes a written questionnaire. The study is conducted through reading and analysis of the print resources, interviews with denominational personnel, extensive questionnaires to lay members of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ and interviews with several selected congregations. Church growth is a product of the cooperative endeavor of a pastor and laymen.  For this project the pastors' Church Study Committee and the laymen's local Church Growth Committee were organized.  Seminars were held and questionnaires were prepared to identify church growth factors and their effect in the local churches.  The pastors' committee evaluated the questionnaires. The results were shared with the Church Growth Committee in each local church. Questionnaires were sent to over two hundred interested persons.  Study groups took the information and concluded that the greatest needs of the directors of associational missions and their wives relate to isolation.  Support groups were enlisted in four associations.  The design of the support meeting included planned activities to break down barriers, share and prayer time and informal conversation and games. The author reviewed pertinent literature -- sociological, psychological and theological -- and used questionnaires and interviews in her research.  The main questions addressed the clergywomen's ages, the touching in their families of origin and their use of touch in ministry. Each woman reported instances of therapeutic and non-therapeutic touching and the response of the parishioner-patient-client as well as their own responses to these instances. In response to this question the author formulated 'The Inquirer's Catechism' to measure the phenomenon. Over a two year period, the author taught a series of structured catechetical courses to four groups of inquirers.  He tested all participants on their perceived faith relationships with God at the beginning and the end of the instructions with a values clarification test, a diagrammed drawing project, and a self-report questionnaire. The author analyzed the statistics and noted all the signs of transformational process.
