If believers are able to increase their knowledge and understanding of the spiritual gifts they possess their identity as Christians will be strengthened and local parish ministry will be enhanced.  Research involves a sample and a control group.  For evaluative purposes the project is divided into four categories: 1) pre-test; 2) post-test; 3) six-week post-test; and 4) personal assessment telephone interviews. To provide one such tool the author researched the relevant biblical and contemporary literature.  All viewpoints were considered and allowed to contribute to the project when judged to have biblical bases.  Once the research phase was completed, the materials were assembled into a seminar format.  The principles of adult education were followed and the project was field tested in a local congregation. The author examines the task of application from a historical, theological, and theoretical standpoint.  The focus of the study is twenty-four pastors from the Evangelical Free Church of America.  The author uses a content analysis approach to study the unique methods of application used by John Broadus, G Campbell Morgan, D Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and Charles Swindoll. Twelve methods of application are isolated from these four homileticians to develop a Methods of Application Self-Reporting Inventory. It develops a couples' prayer workshop as an intervention tool to promote marital prayer, and evaluates the results through pre- and post-tests of the experimental and control groups.  The results reveal a slight but definite correlation between conjoint prayer and marital adjustment.  No significant difference is found in a comparison of either the practice of conjoint prayer or for marital adjustment. A prayer survey given before and after the training measures changes in the prayer practice of the trainees. The Seventh-day Adventist church has not developed tools that enable the pastor to meet this responsibility.  The Deeper Life Conference is designed to fill this gap through the adaptation of the spiritual retreat concept.  During the weekend long conference, the participants receive instruction in meditation, prayer, healthfulness, and fasting, and are given time to practice meditation and prayer.  Three surveys taken before, at the close of the Conference, and six months after the conference determine the growth in the participants' spiritual life. The sample is drawn over a two year period.  The motivational participation factors of the fifty-six respondents are studied empirically to evaluate their correlation with individual characteristics of the participants' individual religiosity inventory scores and church participation theories. This project was designed to put into practice the uniqueness Baptists claim for the priesthood of all believers.  If all Christians are priests, then there should be no distinctions between the clergy and laity.  The aim of this project was to 'empower' the laity for intentional ministry in the church. Twenty-six people were enlisted for this project.  Seven were participants in the ministry training and supervision.  Of these seven, three constituted the experiment group and four constituted the control group. The control group was trained but not supervised.  The experiment group was supervised for five months after training.  The remaining people served as evaluators and support group systems. Those who were both trained and supervised became more effective in ministry than those who were trained but not supervised.
