Biblical truth must be articulated in understandable and applicable conceptual language.  The next generation of preachers are challenged to develop sermons that spiritually impact our contemporary audiences.  A brief comparison of the Postmodern and Enlightenment eras is followed by communication principles and guidelines regarding clarity and relevancy.  Selected Greek terms referring to the act of preaching and New Testament 'sermons' will provide insight into developing clear and relevant sermons. A survey of Christian doctrine written to address this need, with an emphasis on African problems, was published in 1992.  This study is an evaluation of the cultural relevance and the readability of that book in the opinion of the kind of secondary and post-secondary level African theological students who will likely use the book in the future.  The sixty-four participants in the evaluation were students from a Bible college and a seminary in Kenya and a Bible college and a seminary in Ethiopia.  The research sought answers to six research questions by investigating the response to two selected chapters in the book.  To get the information needed, the study used a written survey instrument and a focus discussion group at each test location.  A combined average of 77 percent rated the book as well contextualized. This is a library study. Traditional African religion and culture, the independent African churches, African Christian theology, and the principles of liturgical theology are employed in order to examine what is involved in Africanizing worship. The study concludes that true Africanization must integrate concerns for cultural indigenization and political liberation, and that Africanized worship must reflect this integration. Library research is the primary form of study for this project in areas of spirituality, liberation theology, educational theory, psychology, and developmental psychology.
