The action in ministry was an eleven-week course called 'The Lord's Prayer As Vocation.' Eight young adult members of Trinity Old Lutheran Church (Eggertsville, NY), four men and four women, participated. The Twelve Steps offer a spirituality which has often caused confusion along confessional Lutherans.  Methodology involved interviewing Lutheran alcoholics, non-alcoholic Lutherans and clergy. The Twelve Steps were evaluated according to law and gospel. A brief study of the influence of American civil religion and two kingdom theology gave a backdrop in which to place the Twelve Steps. The thesis is that there is a body of contemporary American poetry which expresses themes that are in harmony with Lutheran theology.  The project includes an anthology of more than one hundred poems by nearly fifty twentieth-century writers organized under a variety of themes consistent with Lutheran theology.
