The dissertation clarifies how to understand charisma and charismatic leadership in a way that helps founders to name a successor and maintain the integrity of their relationship with the followers. A review of leadership studies on charisma, charismatic leadership, and succession planning is the lens for analysis of the research on succession planning for Hillside Chapel and International Truth Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Eleven study participants photographed common parish events to communicate self-selected themes.  These elements were grounded in everyday life, conveying the integration of traditional Anglican values with challenges of multicultural life in a northwest Detroit neighborhood.  Through discussion and group process, a congregational mission statement evolved as 'Christian community spreading out into secular community.' The common practices of infant baptism, first eucharist for children, and confirmation of teens has produced this void.  This study examines the religious experience of persons who while fulfilling these first two scenarios do not choose to celebrate confirmation until adulthood.  Interviews and surveys reveal that these individuals experience conversion and confess discipleship within the institutional church.  These persons' experiences support the historical, systematic and canonical teaching of the church. This work outlines the beginning of transformation, from the author's own spiritual journey and contextual praxis as pastor of a white mainline church to a process of confrontational worship and focused Christian dialogue that can begin the transformation to anti-racist multicultural faith family.
