Thus while the Igbo naming ceremony makes one an Igbo, the rite of baptism makes one a Christian.  The author analyzed the Anglican rite of baptismal ritual as it is contained in The Book of Common Prayer in the light of Turner's theory of rituals.  He used missional theology as a lens to examine the rite of baptism in the Igbo context of eastern Nigeria. On the premise that serious adherence to baptismal vows requires intentional, ongoing spiritual formation, the manual begins with baptismal vows and proceeds to prayer in the New Testament, personal rule of life, community/group spiritual formation, and contemporary issues. A literature review shows the laity's basic role in mission at the beginning of the twentieth century was to provide resources for church expansion.  During the twentieth century social and political crises forced the Episcopal Church to include social service in its mission understanding.  The 1979 Prayer Book provides a clear statement for lay mission.  In the project a clergy-lay team produced a study guide of the baptismal service for adult use.  The study guide questions engage the participant in theological reflection about personal mission. Four laypersons and the rector participated in the training and catechesis. The biblical/historical/theological question of infant baptism is discussed.  A process is then developed for the discipling of parents to give them an opportunity to make a credible profession of faith at the time of their child's baptism.  The primary training is done by lay people.  A case study method was used in the evaluation of the program. The author is Episcopalian, and suggestions are made to adapt the model for any paedo-baptist denomination. Theological pre-suppositions are
