The research focuses on eight passages in 1-2 Corinthians where Paul speaks of his own suffering, determining how he suffered and how he responded to that suffering. Paul's responses are developed into 6 attitudes and 3 actions as the Christian's response to suffering. The thesis suggests that an authentic experience of 'community' can become a reality as a result of the personal dynamics created within the congregation as well as intentional church programming.  A biblical and theological foundation is established, using the Corinthian Christian Church as the primary point of reference.  In addition, the pastoral style and authority of the Apostle Paul is used as a source of insight.
