The theological, historical and cultural factors in this phenomenon were first examined.  An ethnographic research project was then undertaken, with the usual consents and approvals, by Focus Groups before and after participation in the Renovaré Life Streams course by thirty members of the congregation in four study groups. This paper examines traditional practices, and considers their implications for future exercise of ministry. The author offered some Trinitarian teaching aimed at demonstrating that while congregations have their distinctive features they are to reflect something of the communion within the Trinity (perichoresis). A questionnaire on worship and ministry was conducted, some theological reflection encouraged and an evaluation undertaken. The research was undertaken by forming a focus group and issuing questionnaires. He establishes a number of reasons for the lack of participation and suggests possible ways forward which include a wider choice of courses and activities, a greater openness to the doubts and questions of church members, better use of visual media and better training of ministers in this field.
