One of the better opportunities for achieving spiritual growth is participation is the Cursillo (Via de Cristo) movement. The method of study included reading and analysis of congregational statistical data, personal interviews with Cursillo participants from the congregation both before and after attending a retreat, surveys of Cursillo participants and comparisons with similar congregations.  Results of the study indicated that those who attend Cursillo (or similar programs) are uplifted and renewed and are better able to avoid burnout in the congregation. Religious experience was understood as one in which an individual has an intense experience of God's presence and this experience has a radical influence that moves one into a deeper realization of who God is and what God requires.  Through a qualitative study of fourteen participants it was concluded that the participants had a genuine religious experience. Peak religious experiences are considered in relation to spiritual formation of candidates. Implications are drawn and proposals made concerning developing and enhancing the Cursillo method in the three-day Cursillo retreat, follow-up programming, and spiritual direction.  The paper describes two workshops in which this information is shared with Cursillo leaders. This retreat is to reintensify the community life in a Catholic parish. Methods of study included: 1) Research on the theological understanding of community life in the parish and on the essence and goals of the Cursillo Movement; and 2) Implementation and evaluation of the retreat model designed on the basis of the research.
